Weight Jack kit with custom springs???

Weight Jack kit with custom springs???
So on my 89, I had the Ground Control weight jack kit with the slightly softer "street" spring. Think it was 850 pounds up front, 175 out back. Regardless....now owning my stock 88, both my wife and I have thought about just how nice the softer stock suspension is. That being said, it needs to be lower, plus I do want a little better handling. I'm thinking maybe somewhere between stock, and that weight jack kit. Is is feasible to simply buy a spring with the same (similar) dimensions as the weight jack spring, but with a lower spring rate? I do realize that when lowered, you would want a little less travel to avoid bottoming out, but still, for a non tracked weekend warrior, I could get away with a little softer than the 850 spring rate I believe.
Is there a place where I simply spec a spring, regardless of application, and buy it? ....does this line of thinking make sense, or does my amateur suspension knowledge need some more work!??? LOL.
I know a lot of people want a given level of performance, and ride quality is what it is based on that. For me, I'd like the ride height where I want it, then to simply stiffen the spring/shock combo as needed to control the lower ride height. ....and then the better performance would simply be a welcome bonus.

Yes, you can. Places that makes springs for circle track cars will have sizes you can use. Or you can call Ground Control Racing and they'll order custom springs for you.
It's getting harder to find springs though because the rules for circle track cars changed and now they can use coilovers. The many options that used to be available for our weight jacks are drying up.
I think the lowest rate you can go in the front is 700 lb/in before the coils bind up in travel. And you'll probably need an 11 inch spring instead of 9 inch like comes with the kit.

Keep in mind that you're probably in uncharted territory putting 700 lb/in spring on the Ground Control Weight jacks. Be prepared for possibility that you'll be buying twice....
It's fairly easy to figure it out though if you already have a set of weight jacks installed because you have a reference point to start from. Just need to know front/rear vehicle weights, and take measurements how much travel is left in the screw jack. Then you can create a spreadsheet to calculate whether the geometry of 700 lb/in could even work with your existing hardware. That's how I figured out what length rear springs to order when I changed spring rates. I've been meaning to get longer springs for the front too, just haven't gotten around to it.

Mine were adjusted pretty low the first time around. LOTS of room to go higher. ...so if the softer 11" compressed to a similar height of the compressed 9".....then I'd probably be ok. -then fine tune with the kit. Of course, that's IF.... ...but honestly, if the Stock Irocs are what....600.650 IIRC, and the ones I had were 850....an 11" 700/750 spring should be pretty good for my goals. It's more getting the geometry to all jive more than the weight rating.

Re: Weight Jack kit with custom springs???
For the record:
Ground Control can also do a 750/150 combo. It's not advertised, but they'll sell it to me that way. Anything lighter would be up to me to purchase and R&D, as they can't way whether not it would work/fit/bind/perform, etc. etc. -That being said, I wouldn't wanna go any lighter anyhow.
I'm still undecided, but this does directly answer my question, sooo thought I'd post it up for anyone looking in the future. IF....I end up going this route, I'll post up my thoughts on it.
