Power Steering pump question - What to get for a Serp belt/Lee steering Box 670
Looking to replace the pump, but not sure if I should be looking for a pump for a 1984 Trans Am (my car) or a 1989 IROC - (Where my serp system came from.)
Also just purchased a Lee Steering 670 box...in case that matters..
Help!

Hi Chuck, yes you will need a press-on shaft style pump from a later year car, not the keyway style pump. You can get a good cheap powersteering pump puller from Harbor Fieght for about $15 from what I recall price wise. i bought one years ago and have used it probably 50x over the years so they work very well.
The opther thing I would recommend is to contact Lee or such and see about buying a PSi reduction valve. The SignawP pumps in stock form put out about 1200 psi which is way too much and will start to whine from excesses heat and restriction. What is best is to find pump valve that will reduce psi t about 800 psi range so it does not heat up the fuild as much- AND- it robs less HP to turn it.
