Putting a older Column in an 89. Need help
I started another thread in the wrong forum. Here is attempt #2
I have had zero luck finding a good tilt column from 89 for a 5 speed car, but I know where one is from 88. My car has VATS bypassed on the orange while on the column. Does that mean when the new column comes in I wouldn't have to anything special to make it work since it won't have the orange wire?*
Please advise

Re: Putting a older Column in an 89. Need help
im also having column issues with my 83z. finally found a place where i can get a column, but after a failed attempt at rebuilding mine, i filed it. the place where i can get the new one is asking if i have int. wipers and cruise. im not sure now since my old column is now in some garbage heap? any ideas?

58marc- That wiring connects into the ECM, swapping out the column does not altar the need to bypass.
jamesclark- look under the hood for the cruise control crap. Or decode the options list located inside the center console

yeah, I bypassed the VATS. car runs fine, but I may have to remove the column anyway because of the wipers on the 84 (it's actual age) column don't seem compatible with the 89

thanks. someone told me that i could put a column in with int. wipers , that the pin connector is the same and would work even if my z had standard wipers. is that true?

I couldn't get mine to work at all. I ended up putting the original column back in
