Got these comp. engineering bolt in SFC's off of craigslist locally for 100$ Over a year ago And still had all the hardware and instructions and I've decided to finally install them ... As some of u know I just got done with my engine build ("LO3 rebuild" thread).... So the dude I bought em off of got em several years before I let em set for a year so the paint was looking rough and they were starting to show signs of surface rust so I took a flapper wheel to them and got rid of all the surface rust and 90% of the paint as well ... So here's some pics ... I'm also going to be welding them on and puttin a tac on all the bolts and nuts to keep them from backing out even tho they shouldn't seeing as they use lock nuts AND lock washers ... Enjoy !

First time I have ever used a wire welder :-o I'll clean the welds and spatter up with a flapper when when I'm finished ... I should know how to use this crappy little flux core welder by the time I'm finished ....mabey ... How do these welds look for my first time ? The two pieces of metal look like they are bonded quite well even tho the bead ain't perfect .. By far lol ... Oh well it's good practice anyway

100$ welder haha ... Every bead I do gets better than the last one ... An there already bolted in so they ain't gonna go anywhere

Good luck! My welds were getting better as I went along too….although they all ended up looking pretty crappy, they got decent penetration and that's what counts. Be careful not to set the power up too high…or you can blow a hole through things! It's a balance between wire feed speed and power level…

My SFC's were weld-on (no bolts) and they've held tight now for 4 years, so I guess I did OK!

Yea I wish this Welder had more Power settings ! All it has is a MIn & a MAX setting and wire speed ... It kinda sucks ... It needs a dial for power like 1-10 or something ! I could weld this better with a stick $ but this is all I have so that's what I'm using

Well I got em in and mostly just put these in to stop some squeaks and rattles n now I have a rattle 10 times louder than anything I had Before wtf ! The damn flowmaster Y-transition is hitting the SFC on the passenger side just barely and making a god awful racket

Maybe some precise grinding could fix that for the most part, or a whack from a sledge

I fixed it lol ... I took a 2" piece of 3/8" rubber hose split it down the middle and put it on the piece of plate on end of SFC where it was hitting .. Car definitely feels stiffer but I have some 1" by 1" tubing to connect the outer SFC's to the trans crossmember area next

Weld a small brace to the exhaust and the SFC. Bolt them together with a rubber isolator in between. Old end link bushing will work great

Well ya c the SFC is about a 1/4 inch from my flowmaster y transition...the only think I could get in there to make it shut up was a piece a 3/8 rubber hose split down the middle which has already fell out

1991 if you ever up grade to a different welder Hobart has a nice selection. You might have to drill a 1/4" hole and tap it. Then bolt a piece of tire to the sub frame connector to keep them from rattling.

Did you have to cut into the floor pans at all to install these? I remember reading somewhere that you might have to do that.

No mine are the old original South Side Machine ones. Very good quality but they went out of business do to the fact that they where craftsman and not business men. Also have the lift bars which really make her dig off the line. No cutting anything to make them fit. Sorry for jumping in thought you were asking me, Sorry 1991.
