Help with front lower control arm bushings

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to put new Prothane 7-220-BL bushings in my front LCA. I have the old rubber bushings out already. Am I supposed to remove the metal "casing" (see red arrows in pic) also?

I did a search but can't find the answer.

Thanks a million!

If you (or anyone else viewing this thread) owns or has access to an air chisel, those make short work of the casings. Just hammer the flared ends in and hammer them out. I'm sure there are many ways to go about it though.

Re: Help with front lower control arm bushings

Thanks midnight! I don't have an air chisel so I used a sawzall to cut a chunk out of the casings and then used a regular hammer & chisel to get them out.

Re: Help with front lower control arm bushings

When putting in the new sleeves I would highly recommend having a local auto machine shop push them in for you. I recently tried using a ball joint press but started to bend the a-arm. The shop fixed it and pushed the new ones in, and pressed in new ball joints, for a whopping $20.

Agreed. Very easy to bent the arms when trying to install the bushings.

Re: Help with front lower control arm bushings

Yes, I just did mine, it does take some thinking. You have to make sure you have good spacers to put between the arms when you press in the bushing and it does take a lot of force.
