Installed new suspension now PING!

I installed all new suspension KYBgr2 shocks/struts Eibach Sportline 1" lowering. everything seems fine except the front right will occasionally make a hollow Ping sound like the spring is hitting somewhere in the fender and echoing. What do I gotta do to fix?

Re: Installed new suspension now PING!

Check and see if the strut body is hitting the opening in the strut tower when the susension compresses. I doubt its the spring

Re: Installed new suspension now PING!

Its all wet and rainy out now, I will have to check when it gets a little nicer. If its not hitting the opening how do I correct?

If its not hitting, then its nott the problem. If it is hitting, its an issue with alignment. You can also jack up the car, grab the wheel and shake it, see if something is noticably loose or making noise.

Also check and make sure the strut shaft is properly seated in the mount. Pop the plastic cap off the mount and check it

Re: Installed new suspension now PING!

find a socket that you can smack onto the lock and spin it off.
For the ping sound I bet the spring isn't aligned at the top and is binding also making it sit 1inch higher considering that is about the height of the slot it goes into.

Re: Installed new suspension now PING!

Not really its kinda tight. maybe take the wheel off and lower the a arm as far as it will go and try and pry it in the right direction. Get a flashlight to see for sure first though. And be careful as if or when it goes into place it might get a bit hairy with prybars flying around.

Best bet would be to just drop the a arm, Btw with lowering springs did it just slide into the notch or did you have to compress it first?

Re: Installed new suspension now PING!

I compressed it but they still looked like they went in a little crooked, but after i jacked up the Aarm it looked to me like it was in propper placement

Re: Installed new suspension now PING!

Don't plan on the socket you use to actually work again. it may crack. preferably a craftsman for the warranty. I think I used like a 22mm last time I did that. but whatever is tight. And really all you need to take off is the wheel the swaybar the the two bolts on the strut and lower the car on a jackstand with the jack under the control arm.
I made the same mistake :0

Re: Installed new suspension now PING!

Take it by Walmart Tire and Lube. They have the special sockets to remove locking lug nuts. I used to work there and did it all the time for people. I didn't even charge anyone if that's all they wanted done, but more than likely they'll need to write up a basic order just to get the car in the bay. Shouldn't cost more than a few dollars. I would have them do all four wheels and have new lug nuts ready to put back on.

Resetting the spring will not take more than about 20min start to finish, including the time it takes to drink a beer while admiring the awesome stance. Just jack the front up and put jack stands under the frame rails. Pull the wheels off. Put a jack under the A arm. Remove the two bolts from the strut. Lower the A arm all the way (the spring will not pop out and kill you, I promise. Mine doesn't even fall out, but it will be loose by this point). Position the spring where the end sits in the little notch in the A arm. It should be painfully obvious as to the correct alignment of the spring in the A arm. I did try rotating the spring 180* just to see if it would lower the car any more because it does seem to go into the A arm easier when installed this way, but it actually raised the car about an inch. So my guess is that you have one spring installed 180* off from the other spring. Just double check that both springs are installed into that little notch and you should be good to go. AND save $100!! What a rip off!
