Re: Redesigned Lower A-Arms for the 82-92 Camaro/Firebird

Hey Everyone,

We will be releasing the K-member tomorrow evening and offering it at a special price as an introductory offer during our annual Thanksgiving Sale. The downfall is shipping times will be 3-4 weeks on this item and we don't have all our pictures completed yet. We have a few pictures but not an accurate one with for the LSX block or coil over set ups. We are hoping everyone will work with us on this and trust us to supply a quality product like we have done for past 9 years. The introductory offer will be a prebuy at a discounted rate.

Thanks!
Ryan

Ryan, I presume the whole catalog will be on sale? When does it start? I want to order up some A arms for my car so I can start assembling the front suspension and brakes. Also is shipping going to be free?

Summit has a sale going on. $340.

One question before I pull the trigger. The stock Poly are greaseable right?

The polyurethane bushings in our a-arms are greaseable with grease fittings. Stock replacement polyurethane bushings that you would place in your stock arms would not be greaseable.

I hope that helps,
Ryan

That statement sounds a bit misleading. Both would be greasable, just that yours are easier because the grease fittings. Put grease fittings in the stock a-arms & they'd be as easy as yours are.

Awesome, another quick question. Is Summit still carrying the old version of the a-arms? Would it be a better bet to just order straight from you guys?

Glad you like it. I will be posting some details on the current K-members shortly so everyone has some detailed information on them. The road race version is still some time down the road. Also the RR version will be recommended for cars that are actually going to be road raced or auto crossed on a regular basis. For a street and strip car our current version would be recommended. Also the RR version will be $80-$100 more and hopefully available early next year.

I am 99.9% sure that the A-arms Summit has in stock are the new version. We shipped them quite a few sets for the sale. So you can order from us or them

How will the road race version differ from the street/strip version? My car is a corner carver not a drag car and it will be hitting the circuit track a few times during the summer months..

Thnx!

To be honest we are not sure of a final design. A road race version was something we mentioned we may do but haven't completed a design at this point yet. If and when it is completed it will have extra material and bracing supporting areas of high load.. the downfall is it will be heavier.

The current design, although will work great on a drag raced car is also very suitable for street driving and handling applications. Our 4th gen RR version is used for applications such as American Iron and CMC.

I hope that helps,
Ryan

Re: Redesigned Lower A-Arms for the 82-92 Camaro/Firebird

We're pretty close. The pads are in production now, first production run of 20 sets.

Road race version will be a week or two behind the standard version.

Hopefully we can get shipments out within the next few weeks.

The best thing to do is sign up for our newsletter at: http://www.umiperformance.com/catalo...page=subscribe

for when it comes out. Or, if you check on here I can give you the lowdown as well.

We are REALLY working on getting this right the first time. We want the k-member to bolt on perfectly and fit the maximum number of combinations upon release. We think you'll be thrilled.

Thanks for your interest and for choosing UMI!

Nice! The k-member a-arm combo should help your car work pretty awesome.

I know we'll be fighting over the UMI IROC when it's back together. It's had four different prototypes in it getting everything lined up...

I'd hate to see if you built a big block! Sweet!

Thanks for choosing UMI and for putting some serious power through our parts. That'll be cool when you sky the front tires...

Do you mean steering travel you can get?

If so, the factory box will only allow you to rotate the wheel so far before it's maxed out. The stops should allow you to max the steering out.

I hope that helps,
Ryan

There is actually no need for a RR version. The version we currently make has proven to withstand all abuse. We have been using our 1979 Monte Carlo as a test car for 2 years now, we use it for auto-x and road race, it has been attending more and more events each year. It uses the same a-arms as the 82-92 F-Body. I do recommend the Delrin bushing upgrade for handling applications. Here is a video of our Monte at the Syracuse Nationals autox put on by the American Street Car Series. It is headed to Pittsburgh next for the 1.6 mile road course.

My question, how much steering angle could I get out of these arms as opposed to the stock set up?

With our design you can make the steering stops shorter than factory. However the steering box itself has internal stops and will only go so far. So I honestly don't think you will get a lot.

I hope that helps,
Ryan

Now for 2" extended a-arms for us Driftnuts.

I believe we talked with BMR who said the Gen1-2? Camaro a-arms are 2" longer and almost everything is the same minus the spring perch.

Nice work nonetheless UMI.
