Re: 91 CAMARO WITH 468 BBC

if your current rear is a 10 bolt, once you get it to hook, it will be toast.

but yeah, we need to know more about your current setup

ok sorry.... i bought the car from the guy that built the motor for me and accorrding to him it will hold up....we will see about that..... 373 rear gears compleatly stock suspension. trying to get an idea in what direction to go from people that have been there done that so i dont waste money on something that does not work. turbo 350trans has been gone through( 2800 stall) should have plenty of low end i the car.

Re: 91 CAMARO WITH 468 BBC

You have stock suspension so it would seem like an easy bet that you should upgrade it. Do you want to stay with stock style? Four link? Back half? Plenty of info to look at just need to search around.

Re: 91 CAMARO WITH 468 BBC

Well just based on what vague information you have given I would say minimum would probably be LCA's, SFC's, and a poly torque arm bushing. I'm not sure if you would need offset lower rear control arms to run a 10.5 tire.

Re: 91 CAMARO WITH 468 BBC

To run a 10 or 10.5" tire, you'll probably have to do some inner sheet metal modifications to get them to fit. Staying with a 26" tall tire will reduce how much needs to be done but a taller tire like 28" is much better to use.

Don't expect the tiny 7-5/8" diff to last very long. It depends on how good the tires can get traction. All the upgrades you can do to the diff still won't fix the fact that it has a ting ring and pinion and tiny teeth on the gears. These will break before anything else.

The most common diff upgrades is a Dana 60, 12 bolt or 9". All are available as direct bolt ins. Don't expect to find anything in the junkyard that can be an easy swap to make it better. Upgrade the LCA, torque arm and panhard bar to better aftermarket components. Install some sub frame connectors and if required, relocation brackets.

Having a high HP engine with lots of torque means nothing if you can't get the power to the ground. It's a package deal. A better engine means the entire driveline also needs to be upgraded to handle the extra power.

There are always ways to make a third gen hook but very few if any are considered "cheap"

If your 468 is only making 450 hp, I'd sell it and start over.

to the wheels? I wouldn't get rid of that. Why would you suggest that even? And let's not forget he's making a substancial amount of torque with that 468. Don't know why you'de suggest that.

If you want to plant it, you're going to spend some money doing it. If it were me I'd start saving for a new rear and do other supporting modifications around it once you've got it pulled out.

Re: 91 CAMARO WITH 468 BBC

any well built engine should make atleast 1hp per cube to the tires. 450hp to the tires is nothing a well built sbc should make.

Why fix something that isn't broken? HP is worthless if all you do is spin your tires (or break your rear). He'd be better off putting the cash into his suspension, not a new motor taking two steps backward on a smaller cubes from scratch.

Will you give me advice on how to get my 283 to make 450 to the wheels in my Camero? It's got dome pistons, 3/4 cam, roller tip rockers and a high rise intake. I think some nawws might help it out too. I want it to leave like the picture in my sig. God I love that car............

You said a well built sbc can make 450 to the wheels.. I have a well built sbc (283) and I can't seem to get that out of it so I was asking for advice. You are the one who generalized the statement. So what should I expect?

BTW my 10.70@126 406 engine didn't make 450 to the wheels either. It must not have been well built.

What all is done to your car? That's a good run!

Oh, and I hear once you hit 450 to the wheels you get a golden ticket kind of like the one from ***** Wonka, except it's from TGO to you expressing their love for such a faithful member.
