suspension knocking

looked through the forums for this, didnt find what i was looking for.

89 RS 2.8/700R4

while driving, when going over certain bumps, not all the time, i get a knocking that seems to be coming from the front passenger side.

Ive been told to check the flexplate and such and seemed like it was fine, no play. replaced shocks/struts with KYB's, recently did the front sway bar bushing and end links, and now it got rid of almost all of the knocking, but one knock remains. coming from the same area as listed above.

i jack it up, wheels supported, then wheels not supported and check the suspension parts for play, cant find it. car completely on the ground, pushing down on all points of the car to simulate bumps and still nothing.

If it is a drivetrain issue, would i not get feedback through the pedal or shifter? or feel it in the way the car performs(loss of power, bucking)?

but i get no feedback at all through the drivetrain, it feels tight as ever.

i've been trying to figure this one for awhile now and its the last mechanical knock that i know of left to get rid of, aside from the little things like the rods in the door, but thats easy.

Any thoughts guys???

this ^^
maybe somethings loose and when u go over bumps, it goes up, then you drive down the bump and it go's back, hard. get it? lol

jack the front of the car up so that both front tires are off the ground and tighten the strut mounts then get back to us

Re: suspension knocking

well i havent had a chance to jack it up, but i did however grab the tailshaft of the trans and moved it, quite a bit more than its supposed to move. so im going to replace the trans mount, again, even though i replaced it 2 months ago. can my little 2.8 even really break it if i don't beat the hell out of the car???

You might see if the bolts to trans and bolts to cross member are still tight. Who knows.

^all tight, but now im hearing lots of stories of the infamous transmission mount on 3rd gens. solid better? or an upside down U shaped piece of metal with sway bar end link bushings connecting it to the crossmember?

how does that sound for a tran mount?

Re: suspension knocking

Problem solved. It was the trans mount. crappy $7.99 mount from autozone.
Gonna dish out the money for an energy suspension tran mount when i get the $$.

If not, they do have a lifetime warranty, so every time it breaks until then, ill just keep getting the free replacement, lol.

I figured that it was the tran mount cause when i kicked it down to 1st from 2nd, WHAM. When i replaced it, no more WHAM, lol.

You might read the following comparison between after market and OE:
