Any interest in a drag racing suspension/exhaust experiment?

Hi all,

It looks like my car resurrected from the garbage will be driveable this summer. I am reasonably close to a few drag strips and I am interested in doing some runs. I also have a bunch of standard suspension and exhaust upgrade parts I am going to be putting on. My question is:
Is anyone interested to see how each component improves ET? I was thinking about putting the parts on one at a time and comparing runs. However, I'm not really sure if there will actually BE a noticeable difference between parts. I was just curious what could be achieved without tearing into the motor and doing it a step at a time as someone on a budget might do, buying parts one at a time. Does anyone think this would be worthwhile?

Car:
1989 GTA, perf susp w wonderbar, 350/700R, stock except for better ignition

Parts:
UMI SFC's, Hotckis LCA's and lower panhard, Spohn TQ arm, 3" mandrel catback exhaust, Edelbrock headers, also have some unknown Eibach springs, they are red, no idea which type they are.

Let me know if this sounds like a good idea

Doing the swaps on a one day basis, you should have at least 3 runs with each new part to get an average comparison in roughly the same conditions.

Doing the swap from weekend to weekend, you need to keep an accurate account of the weather conditions to determine if the changes were good or bad based off the parts change or the weather condition change. That means recording temperature, humidity and barometric pressure at each track. If the pressure is recorded as the station pressure and not corrected pressure then the track altitude isn't needed.

Re: Any interest in a drag racing suspension/exhaust experiment?

I was going to do it over the summer as time alloted. I was thinking I would like to get 5 runs in per configuration. The car will also be racing basically stripped, so I guess I'll have to throw some ballast in to compensate for the missing plastic and carpet. And I'm not putting carpet in this until the SF is installed. My background is in biology, so I'm going to try to keep the science of it as sound as possible. I don't know if the tracks I am racing at will keep track of those variables, but I know that Environment Canada keeps track of stuff. I am sure Cayuga (Toronto Motorsports Park) will, but not sure about the other two I am near. I was also going to keep track of tire pressure, and I *might* try out some slicks if I can get some cheap. That will certainly find any weak links in the driveline. So, this isn't a bad idea then? Anyone have any input as to the order I should install this stuff?

I'd be interested. Start with the simple stuff like lower control arms and panhard bar first because that is an easy bolt on upgrade that pretty much anyone with a jack (and jack stands) and a wrench can do.

I was going to do this when I was building up my suspension for autocrossing. I had all these parts just sitting there in my garage and it was bugging me. I finally gave in and put most of them on at once... oh well.

Ok, then I'll give it a whirl. This car is up there as far as budget built...its a junkyard car made from junkyard parts and pieces from other people's abandoned projects and parts cars or stuff from the classifieds. I wish the brake components were cheaper!!! I'm hoping that this will contribute a bit to the board. The info and people on here have been fantastic, so I want to give a little back, and I want to go racing anyway, so its win-win. I actually wasn't very into these cars until I got this thing, and now I can't wait to get it out on the street!! Would LCA relocating brackets be worthwhile on this?? I was reading about them the other day, seemed like it might help with launching, even with stock ride height.

The ideal angle for the lower control arms is level with the ground. Do what you may with that info.
