I was taking off the A-Arms on my car (85' z28) yesterday to do the a-arm bushings , engine mounts and put in lowering springs and i noticed the rear bracket on the drivers side where the control arm bolts in, there is a decent sized crack on one side of it that goes most of the way around. Is that going to be a bad idea to try and weld it back together or should I just get one of those tubular K-members? If I get a new K-member i was probably leaning towards BMR unless anyone can tell me why not to get one. Thanks

Geoff

Re: cracked K member

Get another factory K from a yard. Much cheaper, and then you don't have to deal with the migraine that is putting in a tubular K. Plus you can clean it up all nice before you install it.

I'll see if i can get a picture of it tonight.

TheScaryOne, what is the difficutly of installing a tubular one? Also wreckers around here seem to be really expensive.

Re: cracked K member

Do a search. Some of the tubular K's are nightmares to install. The Spohn one also requires his A-Arms, you can't use factory. I think a few of the companies are like that. But some people can't get the engine in, even when jumping on top of it, the motor mounts might need to be shimmed at awkward angles, there's a whole bunch of horror stories on this forum.
