How painful is it to change the front to rear brake line on a Third-Gen? On my GTA, the fittings on all the rear brake lines are seized up tight despite spraying them with penetrant, and I'm trying to install new Earl's hoses. Do places like Inline Tube, FineLines, etc. typically stock them or make them to order? I wanted to get this project wrapped up soon and didn't want to wait until Christmas to get a brake line.

I changed the front to rear line on my second-gen T/A, and it was a PITA. This one looks easier, but I wondered what I was getting into.

I just ordered it from fine lines along with the rear axel lines all SS cost 131. I also have earl lines i am going to do it all at once. I havnt checked it out that much yet but im sure it wont be that hard to replace.

It looks like it might not have been that bad, except that I had to reroute one of the front brake lines to the other side of the steering shaft when I installed my headers. Where it ended up is going to make snaking the rear line out difficult.

As an added bonus, I was checking out the fuel lines that run with the brake line and they are rusted badly in a few spots. That's because Ziebart sprayed them way back when I bought the car; the undercoating trapped moisture next to the lines and now they are eaten up. Makes me a little nervous with fuel at 45 psi in there...at least the rest of the underside is OK.

I was considering putting a union in the front to rear line somewhere and running a new line up to the center brake hose, but that seems like a hack.

Just got home and my lines are here they are nice! They almost look polished they are really shiney.

finelines are great. i got all new rear lines for my rear end swap fast shipping is what i found and the are factory correct so mounting is easy. i also got trans lines from them. all fit real well and they prices are great and worth the lack of agrivation bending your own

I agree, when I replaced all the hardlines on my '79 T/A I used stainless lines from FineLines. SpdFrk, just to let you know...the stainless lines are a little harder to get to seal sometimes. The stainless is harder than the steel normally used, so getting the line to conform can be difficult. A trick to help out with this is to tighten and loosen the fitting several times if it leaks; this helps the line conform to the fitting.

I just got regular 1/4 and 3/16 hard line and bent it to my liking. I love the way it has turned out. I am able to route it to the best place and keep it away from the things that have been changed by me. My cost for hardlines, $10. I don't need stainless the way that I have them routed, and for ten dollars, I would not mind replacing them in 5-10 years again.
