Questions regarding Eibach race springs

Questions regarding Eibach race springs

I'm looking for springs for my GTA and haven't found anything that meets all my needs. I want linear rate springs, which rules out the Pro-Kit. The Moog 5662/5665 looks appealing, except that I would like to drop the car a bit. I could cut the Moog springs, but cutting the rear springs seems like it could be a pain if I have to heat them up to form the end after cutting.

So, I am looking at Eibach race springs as I understand they are linear and available in a variety of rates. Based on the following...

- Drop front and rear about 1"
- Approximately 650 - 700 lb-in linear rating front
- Approximately 210 lb-in linear rating rear
- Car still has A/C, may be sticking with cast iron heads as I am looking at Vortec heads, and battery is still up front

Does anyone have a setup similar to this, and how is it working? Any recommendations? I am currently running Koni reds up front, Koni yellows in the rear. I am considering moving the battery to the trunk, which will affect weight distribution some.

One alternative is to go with the Ground Control Adjsuatble rear setup. Reasonably priced . I'd recommend the 200lb\in or 225lb\in rears springs.

Will the Ground Control adjustable setup live on the street with potholes, etc.? I was concerned that the threads might get beat up and pulled out with rough streets eventually. The car is a daily driver during warm weather.

How much of a drop will just pulling out the rear isolators and replacing them with a split section of hose produce? I just want to drop it a bit to lower the center of gravity.

I've had the adjustable setup for close to 2 months now and i have enough crappy streets around here with no problems. I wouldn't worry about the durability of GC's drop in setup unless you plan on jumping the car in the air.

I'm gonna second chickenman's recommendation for a 200-225lb/in rear spring. I have 175 in the rear and altho it seems fine just driving around and even messin around on city streets a bit when I goto the autox its definately off balance.

Lot's of guys ause threaded collars on the street, particularily the Honda crowds. No problems that I've ever heard of. Big potholes will tend to break anything though.

Rear isolators removal and hose trick might get you 1\2". Not much more.

Another option I'm looking at is a set of custom springs from Eaton Detroit Spring. Apparently they will wind anything you want for not much more than stock off-the-shelf springs. Does the 700 lb/in rating for the front sound about right for this application? That seems to be about average for a corner-carving street driven ThirdGen.

Just out of curiosity...does the adjustable height setup count as unsprung weight? Seems like it might...

only the rear adjusters count as unsprung weight because they sit underneath the spring BUT they're made of aluminum. I think they weigh about 3lbs each. No biggie.
