Baer Question

I am going to purchase a Front Baer Braking System for my 1990 Formula. My question is what is the difference between the 'Sport' System with and the 'Track' System? I know that the 'Sport' System comes with 12" rotors and the 'Track' System comes with 13" rotors, but is that the only difference. If so, is there any reason not to buy the 'Track' System? If that is the only difference, why would anyone buy the 'Sport' System? There is only $10.00 difference in price. My logic says that there MUST be some difference. If not, why would they even go to the trouble to make two different systems? Thank you for any info that you can give me.

I just purchased the Baer sport for my 89 formula. I bought the sport kit cause the 12 fit the 16in rims the 13 do not. 13in track requires 17in or larger wheels.

Not quite right. I put track (13") baer brakes under 16" wheels. I have a 91 Z-28 with stock wheels.

Car: Yes...
Engine: Last time I checked...
Transmission: See "Engine"...
The difference in price between the Sport Kit and Track Kit is actually more like $100 IIRC. As I understand it, both kits are identical except for the rotor size.

The Sport Kit with 12" rotors is the more expensive since Baer takes their 13" rotor and has it machined down to 12". The extra cost covers the machining fee.

Accually I just checked and the sport is 965 and track is 975 form thirdgen resource. I went with them cause they do not require you to send your old spindles back. Thirdgen takes care of it for you by sending a set of theres at no charge

convenience is nice isn't it!

the only difference really is the size of the rotor beyond the fact that the brackets are altered to fit that. the caliper is the same. the track kit will not fit under all 91-92z wheels. there are 3 different versions of the oem wheel that were used and only one fits with no problems where as the second has been known to get by and the third absolutely won't work. hense why i had to change my rims when i went with the track kit. baer does ask for a 150 core charge for the spindle but some places alter their prices and adjust accordingly.

i paid 1,100 for all my options on my track kit and the original bare bones set at the time was 730. i've seen them for as low as 600 and as high as 1400. you just have to shop. the part that really gets me is how the fox body mustang is half the price.

Re: Baer Question

Resurrected from the dead!!!

I have the Baer SPORT Kit now and am either going to dump it or "upgrade" to the TRACK kit. Now, I'm seeing that the TRACK kit is the 13" (C4 Rotor?) version. Is that the only difference? Yes, the SPORT 12" is a turned down 13", but after looking quickly at the caliper bracket and/or the caliper itself - it doesn't look like a 13" rotor will tuck into it (without a modified caliper OR caliper bracket OR caliper carrier and bracket). I may be wrong.

So, back to the original question - will the SPORT kit accept a 13" rotor without any other parts needed or modification?

If not, I think I'm just going to change my front setup - as I have the rear Baer TOURING kit and 12" seems to be more than enough for the rear.

Thanks!!
