Car: 1988 Camaro RS

Transmission: Stick Shift
Axle/Gears: 3.42's
Time for springs or shocks???

Ok, when i go over any kind of bump, it sounds like the rear is hitting the bump stops. There is an audible thunk from the car and itdoesn't feel real comfy. It's done this ever since i got it. Now I'm just getting annoyed. There is only like 2" of clarence between the body and bump stops.

Time for new shocks AND springs. Your car is at least 11 years old, so chances are you have worn out parts. Also 2" of clearance isnt much. Order a set of KYB Gas-A-Just rear shocks, they are great for the price. And look into getting some new springs. Eibach makes a great spring, a few people seem to be running Dropzone springs. Thoses you can get off of Ebay for about $100. I myself run Moog springs. Just look around and see what people are using, and compare that to how much your willing to spend. Also dont pay to get the work done. This is extremely easy work to do. Should take you about 2 hours with basic hand tools to do the rear shocks and springs.

yeah, i know how to do it all. Had to learn how it all comes apart and back together when i re-did the rear end. Thanks for the info

i just finished puttin in KYB gr2 struts and new coil springs up front, KYB gas-a-just shocks in the rear and the moog coil springs in the rear also. rides very nice and also the front end has a rebuild kit on the front so it has all new front suspention parts.

I agree that you need new springs & stuts. But I dont think the age of the car has anything to do with it. After all it's not how the old the car is, it's how well it's cared for, heck my uncles 1916ish Model T will testify to that

My comment was in reference to the fact that it might have the same shocks and springs that came with the car.

Tokico Illumina 5-Way Adjustable Shocks & Struts....what does everyone think of this setup?..i also want to install newfront end kit..upper strut mount package..wonderbad..and rear LCA's..anyone have any suggestions on whether this is a wise decision..thanks everyone

Do what aklaim sudgests. He's right. As for the Tokiko Illuminas, they would be a good setup for roadracing. Adjustability is good for varrying track conditions. For daily street use you could probably save some $$ and go with a street shock, as those Illuminas are pretty expensive. The KYB's mentioned earlier are great for street use. If you didnt do SFC's yet I would add them to that list (along with bushings) as well.

cool..i checked a site to see about ordering, and it said 93-01 camaro...are those the ones that will fit?i have a 92..and im not sure if those are the same ones everyone else is using

yeah, i've decided that is definitly time for the whole setup. Looking at all of your guys pics, your ride hieght is a lot higher than mine, suggesting that the springs are sagging. Thanks a lot guys.

right on. I just remebered that after i rebuilt the rear end that i forgot to tighten down the sway bar. It's on there and is tight enought to do a decent job, but i don't remember tightening it down all the way. Thanks. I'll keep you posted
