Issues w/ smog - aftermarket gauge cluster?

Just as the title states. My stock cluster is acting up and I'd like to just toss it and do a full Autometer etc. gauge cluster set up. Just wondering if that's going to be an issue when I go get it smogged? Not sure why but I though I'd ask the question.

If anything from the gauge cluster was an input into the ECM, there could possibly be something...

But AFAIK, the gauge cluster on third gens only receives outputs from the ECM, and therefore would have no impact on engine operation.

You have to have the check engine light.

So, as long as I have an amber light to indicate a CEL somewhere I should be OK?

I would think so... and if you can demonstrate that it works and behaves exactly like the factory light.

You could also get with the local smog station and tell them what you want to do ahead of time. See if they'd have an issue with it.

Not sure where you are located, but make sure that the light says "Check Engine" or you have the plastic check engine piece and can overlay it on the new gauge.

I had an aftermarket digital dash on mine, and the smog shop rejected it. Too many lights and they could not tell which one was the check engine light. (there is a fasten seat belt light, choke light and none of them were marked on my new dash), and it was too much hassle for the smog man to figure out if the fasten seatbelt light was really a check engine light that wasn't working, and that teh real check engine light was some other light that went off and on.
