Ripped off by Andy Mitchell, Hardcore Racing Parts in Montclair, CA

I bought a set of AFR 1094's from Andy Mitchell of Hardcore Racing Parts on RacingJunk. Sent $950 almost 3 months ago and have yet to receive them and he hasn't returned my calls or emails since 7/4. I didn't take too much caution sending him $ b/c he's been featured in tons of mags but since this went down, further research shows he's a major shyster notorious for this kind of crap and his prior business Outlaw Racing Engines is no longer. Wondering if anyone knows him or can verify if his shop is where he claims it to be. I have other irons in the fire as well trying to track him down but trying to work all angles.

I had a friend out there who was able to pay Andy a visit...nothing bad went down but he said Andy started trembling when my friend said he was there to pick up my heads! After 3 months, I can finally resume my build!

That's good you finally got your heads. There is a web page for junkracing in MA.lol ;http://www.racingjunk.com/Heads/2631...-304-.550.html so, how did you get them for $950 if i might ask? New or used?

Re: Ripped off by Andy Mitchell, Hardcore Racing Parts in Montclair, CA

Funny you found that ad...that guy actually bought those heads from Andy Mitchell as well on RacingJunk. Andy gave me the guys name & number as a reference prior to me sending him payment. Guys name is Rick & he also paid $950 for them (used, dyno time only) and then had them cleaned, pressure tested, etc but was selling them to go with a 210+ b/c he was building a 406. I talked to Rick a bunch of times and almost bought these heads off him for $1200 but since I was already out a grand with Andy, couldn't bring myself to spend the additional cash.
Supposedly Andy has a connection at a tech school who uses these heads in class, dyno them a few times and then auction them off. Andy said he had a 2nd set which is what I sent him payment for. $950 would have been a smoking deal for 1094s and after talking to Rick and another reference Andy gave me, felt confident sending him payment. As it turns out, Andy didn't have the heads yet and I guess the school wouldn't release anymore or something to that affect. He did show my buddy a bunch of text messages he'd been sending to a guy at the school saying he needed the AFR's to send to me so I think initially, Andy's intentions were good. However, when he couldn't get the heads he just cut off all communications with me for over a month until I had someone show up at his shop. Then it took another week and a couple visits, and Andy somehow came up with these Trick Flows I now have. Even that was sketchy, he told my buddy the day we planned to pick the TFS's up that he didn't have them and they were at his house to which my buddy said "OK, let's go get them" and followed Andy, got them, and rolled. Andy certainly wasn't a threat to my buddy but he said Andy was still just plain weird...
It was also pretty obvious Andy no longer had the money to give back to me so I figured the TFS's were better than nothing. I could go on and on about this and stories from others I met that have/had issues with Andy...bottom line to any one thinking of dealing with Andy Mitchell....DON'T!

Re: Andy Mitchell, Hardcore Racing - Is this guy British?

Hello all.. I realize this is an old thread.
Several months ago I bought a Ford 302 Short Block, posted on Craigslist, from a British guy called Andrew J Mitchell who mentioned he built "Race Engines" and mentioned "Hardcore Racing".
It was a well presented ad, the short block was described as "Professionally Built", asking price $2750.
He chatted with my engine builder, long established in Orange County CA, about the various characters he knows and is friendly with and some of whom my engine builder has met. Seemed legit.. I bought the short block.

We quickly discovered it had not been built professionally so it was stripped & sent to the machine shop, hot tanked, checked for cracks (I think they used dye), honed etc.
A week ago it was ready, at last, to go into my car. I did a final dry run on bolts, threads, brackets before the motor went in and the power steering boss cracked. A little while later we figured out that the part that came off was carefully molded JB Weld, very well disguised under the thin coat of black paint that was on the block when bought... I'm now starting from scratch.. again..

Is this the same Andrew J Mitchell that I'm reading about in this thread?

Thanks in advance for any responses or information.. If this is the same guy, then he's still at it. Any current information will be appreciated.
