JVC Camaro filming in Hollywood
The electronics company JVC has been making after-market stereos for Camaros since the early 1980's. It decided to produce a film several minutes long to show the combined excitement of music and muscle cars. Today several bright red Camaros selected by the company to be in the advertising film showed up for a shooting session in Hollywood. They were, with one exception, all bright red convertibles. My '91 ragtop painted with PPG Torch Red is especially RED represented 3rd Gens and was one of the cars selected by the producer.
There were red 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Gens in the filming. All were ragtops except for an especially beautiful hardtop 2nd Gen that came down from Bakersfield that did a howling burnout in the middle of a crowded street with traffic blocked off by biker cops. The cloud of tire smoke was so thick it hid the officers and when they emerged from the smoke it looked like a scene from the movie Terminator!
I'd guess there were at least a couple dozen artists and technicians in the film crew and they were total professionals. Everyone knew exactly what to do, the teamwork was extraordinary to watch. It was pretty exciting to see all the attention my Camaro was getting as they cleaned, detailed, installed an 80's correct JVC stereo and filled the car with actors and actresses.
The filming was mostly done on a mobile platform at the hotel, but the filming company also took the cars around town and filmed from the platform as well as driving them on the streets. I was asked to drive my own car in one of the segments and it was pretty funny being able to do U-turns and whatevers knowing a bunch of cops were backing me up! It will be interesting to see if I'm included in the final production.
My interest waned a bit when they moved on to the other cars, but I was able to occupy my free time with views of the hotel pool and endless buffets of breakfast and lunch stuffings. Bear in mind the location was no weed-infested back lot in the wastelands - this was a 4 or 5 star hotel smack in the middle of high-rent Hollywood. You know, the types of places where the bathroom sinks are lit from the inside and the lounges are marble, cushy furniture and wall-to-wall plasma screens. It was a fairly opulent setting to kick back and finally let Red Ragtop earn a hefty paycheck. After all RR owes me after sucking up my cash for years, so maybe there is something to Karma after all...
Those of you who've seen my car know there's a gaping hole where the stereo is supposed to be. Well, no more - the installer from JVC was cool enough to give me a box with a brand new JVC stereo with all the bells and whistles. How great was that!
The producer said the film will be on the JVC web site pretty soon and might also be on social media sites. I'll post the link when I know it.

Congrats Ed! The vert is looking sharp. Commercials and promotional gigs are the best, they pay so well. Did they feed you like a king?

Cool! That 5th gen looks like a dump truck next to your low, sleek 3rd gen.

Re: JVC Camaro filming in Hollywood
There's another facet of how a Third Gen Camaro became involved in this Hollywood shoot. It was only possible because of the interest of a very special automotive enthusiast - Gabriel, otherwise known as Mr. Vintage Machine. He is the liaison between those who need special cars, motorcycles and trucks for ads, and people like us who have them. If you'd like the opportunity to get your Third Gen into movies, advertisements and promotions, send Gabriel photos of your car at gabriel@mistervintagemachine.com or visit www.mistervintagemachine.com.

Re: JVC Camaro filming in Hollywood
It was totally professional because Gabriel, the agent representing me to the film company had my car completely insured against any damage. This was not a "home video" sort of production, not when the budget is at least 200K. Additionally, the company was very upfront about exactly what they wanted to do with the car during filming. The script called for hot girls in a hot red car listing to music on a JVC stereo ... not any car chases or demolition derby stuff.

Re: JVC Camaro filming in Hollywood
JVC has posted the music video on youtube. It is about six minutes long and includes Turn Me On 4 Decades featuring Lita Ford, Candlebox, Puddle of Mudd, Rev Theory and the Monster Energy Girls. The music is good and video has lots of energy. I'd expected more shots of the cars, but it's mostly all about the stereos. Oh yeah, that was the purpose of the whole thing...
Here's the link and a few stills.
