TPI Club March 26th Dyno Sign Up

I figured I would get one going in case this comes off. I bet we have some new highs. Maybe even some over 400rwhp. Lord, for once please let me have a "normal" dyno pull with a decent graph.

1. Dyno Don
2. Kevin91z
3. Allen
4.
5.
6.
7.

I think it is very likely we will have another dynoday by the end of May. We all need to get ready for the L. A. Invasion drag race.

Count me in tentatively for the 26th - that is if I didn't blow all my cash in Vegas.

Sure but you will have to get a "pass" with your photograph and sign a non-disclosure agreement. There will be a lot of "top secret" stuff there that is not for the general public.

No problem I am not one to tell " top secrets" to the general public I been told a few things and seen Dons work and in fact I use it for my personal use only
I use all the advise Don has told me and it has helped me alot
I have no problem signing anything, I always carry a pen in my camaro

Yowza, it is a pretty tough crowd this time. Anybody that tops this group will probably need a roll bar.

By the way I confirmed the reservation for the dyno today. We are on. I plan on being there around 9:00am to get things set up.

I should make the lowest HP around 390+. I have the least and cheapest air flowing engine on paper.

Even though its not ready yet, do you guys think I may be 390+ with my new setup? I imagine my restriction would be the 1 5/8 headers. I know the miniram wont be.

I don't know, last time I made 375hp / 310tq through the SS4000 TC.

I just want to see the a/f ratio at about 12.8 - 13.00000 in the upper RPM's. I think it's a little lean up top right now. We'll see what the 'brain trust' thinks, and tune from there.

Let us know where you are at in your build. What parts have you decided on?

Bill, high stall torque converters will do that. I lost horsepower on the dyno but went faster at the track. Did you resolve the lock up issue with your converter? By the way I had mine converted to an SS4000 as Dave says that looks to be a better match for my motor. I already have it back. I will not put it in until after the dyno pull on March 26. With the stock converter Kevin will be able to tune the car in more rpm ranges at WOT.

They dyno is a harsh mistress. Optimism has no effect on what it reports.

The motor is a Miniramed 355 with the AFR 195's. I went with the Comp Cams 280 XFI with a 114 LSA instead of the 113. I'm using 1.6 roller rockers with the 7/16 stud like you said. The exhaust is through SLP's 1 5/8 shorties with a duel cat y-pipe (made by DynoDon) through a 3inch magnaflow cat-back. I believe the compression ratio will be in the low 10's. I also had a performance build on the transmission done about two years ago.

I guess you went with 114LSA trying to build some torque with the Miniram. I would have left it at 113LSA. You should make 390+ but at 6400. Your Miniram is open so much that you may not have enough cam for it. Bigger cubes would be better like 400+ cubes. For those of you that doesn't know, his Miniram flows over 390+cfms. It has a major port job.

Re: TPI Club March 26th Dyno Sign Up

Maybe. The SLP 1 5/8" headers maybe blocking the exhaust port more than I would like on those AFR heads. By the way Don has a set of his 1 3/4 headers that came off my car for sale if you want to upgrade. With a very minor clean up they are guaranteed to clear the exhaust ports on the AFR heads. However, they are set up for 2 3/4 collector pipes so you might want to upgrade that as well.

I did what Don recommended. After finding out the what the miniramed flowed I brought up the idea to go 383. He said just stick on my current path.

I'm looking to upgrading the headers too. I'll probably wont do that for a little while though because of money. I'll enjoy the motor for a little bit, then upgrade when I have the funds.

You will probably go through a period of getting things dialed in, chasing little gremlins, etc, but you have the potential to make the power, depending on your fuel pump/injectors and some other items (as mentioned, high stall converters cost power on the dyno chart, but pay off at the track). Most of the heavy hitters in the group run manual transmissions.

The Miniram would have worked better with a 383 or bigger.

That would be great if you can get the ignition fixed. I would love to see what your can can do. Sounds like it would raise the average horsepower level for all 6 or 7 cars.

Maybe you have an idea? When I get above 3k RPMs I start backfiring. When I look at my ECM datalogger, the RPM trace starts toggling between 3000, 1500, and 1000... like I am missing signals from the crank sensor or the ignition module. I replaced both and still having the issue.

I checked the long range weather forecast and they are calling for showers on the 26th. That is a little far away yet but we need to keep and eye on things and maybe have a back-up plan.

Oh no, not rain!!

I'm hoping I got all my little gremlins fixed this time so I can make a full pull on the dyno.

Re: TPI Club March 26th Dyno Sign Up

The latest on the weather, it appears that maybe there will be showers in the early AM on Saturday. That will work if it holds. We will have to wait and see.

I hope my gremlins are gone to so that I can make power beyond 5500 rpm. There will be some serious competition at the Los Angeles Invasion and I will need all the help I can get. The competition has not been standing still.

Lets hope the weather works in our favor. I'm not sure about the invasion yet, it is difficult since I almost always work on Saturdays. Besides Alan, didn't you destroy one of those factory aluminum driveshafts?

Re: TPI Club March 26th Dyno Sign Up

The race at the Invasion will be on a Sunday possibly Monday. We will vote for which day at the meeting. Looks like the weather is in our favor for this Saturday. If I get there first at the dyno I will go ahead and get things ready and put my car on the dyno to speed things up. If someone else is first we will put that car on the dyno to get things going. How many donuts should I bring? 1 or 2 dozen? Allen

I scratched my name from the list for March 26....vibration issue....again.

I would like to vote for racing at the Monday session of the Invasion.

Sorry to hear that Bill. We all have our share of setbacks. Some of us more than our share...

Alan: Any donuts you decide to bring will be welcome. I'm sure they won't survive the day until dinner.

Re: TPI Club March 26th Dyno Sign Up

Bill, could it be that you need to rotate the drive shaft 180 degrees. It cured my vibration problem.

TA, I will bring two dozen donuts. The spoils will be shared to take home by whomever.

Edited: Corrected to 180 degrees.

Really, If a ds is vibrating I have no idea how rotating it 90deg would remove the vibration.

I didn't really notice my vibration until ~80, but after the ds was rebalanced I realized the vibration had been present at 25mph.

Thanks Don, you are correct. By the way it looks like if there will be any rain it will occur in the evening or late afternoon. So we should be able to get out dyno runs in.

I'd bring coffee to go with the donuts, but I have to work at least part of the day, so I opted to work in the AM.
