SCTPI Meeting January 15

Just confirming our Saturday, January 15 meeting at Spires Restaurant 13030 Goldenwest Street, Westminster. They have a separate room for us. Looks like a real nice setup. Meeting will begin at 6:00pm with the parking lot gathering around 5:30pm. Plenty of parking available.

The main crossroads are the 22frwy and Goldenwest/Knott streets. Easy on and off the freeway. You all come.

I know that Spires, its the one near the dyno.

My sick days coincided with my vacations lately, so I should be able to get Saturday off!

Gotta work today, so I'll probably be a little late for the tire-kicking session, but I'll be there as soon as I can.

Re: SCTPI Meeting January 15

If anyone is interested in my very high flow long tube TPI runner project I have the base back from the welder and the plenum with a lot of the machine work done. I will bring them for the show and tell portion of the meeting.

I wasn't going to but maybe I will start a thread on my high flow long tube runner project with some pictures. There have been a couple of inquiries asking me to.

Re: SCTPI Meeting January 15

We had another successful meeting, and it was great to see everyone again to kick off the 2011 season of modifying TPI engines.

We had 18 people, including one new person and one old face return.

We discussed our plans for this year, including the LA Invasion, Bar-B-Q at the park, Big Bear Cruise, and San Deigo cruise. We'll also try and get to the race track and dyno again to practice for the LA Invasion.

Thank you to all our members who attended. Its great to see people still interested in the TPI engine and making it faster.

Our next meeting is penciled in for Saturday March 12th at the same Spires in Garden Grove.

Hi, all

Sorry I could not make it. I've been spending a lot of time in Colorado lately. Looking forward to the next meeting.

Your monster long-tube project looks promising Alan, and I would really like to see what it flows with the runners on the base.

Re: SCTPI Meeting January 15

Hi Troy.

Dr J/Bryce will be doing the porting of the base. I will have the base flowed along with the runners and plenum. I am hoping for the low 300cfm range. If Bryce has a set of appropriate heads available maybe we can throw them into the mix and see what happens. Hey, its only money.

Here are a few things I am looking at on the project design criteria. One is flow cfm mentioned above. Another is total runner volume in relation to cylinder volume. This affects the kinetic energy available for cylinder filling. 100% is about ideal but it looks like I will be 10% over or so which is hard to avoid with long runners. Average CSA is another area I am taking into consideration and mine is 2.61 in sq. That is spot on. Last but not least is total runner length for wave tuning. I should be around 20.5" to 21" and that is right where I want to be. As the motor goes up the rpm range it will first pass the 4th harmonic wave which is a 4% boost. Next is the 3rd harmonic wave with is a 7% boost(factory TPI uses this wave) and last the 2nd harmonic wave which is a 10% boost. I should be shifting right at the end of the 2nd harmonic wave. We shall see how all this theory pans out. Hey, what can possibly go wrong.

I guess in a few days I will start a separate thread. Made a lot of progress at the machine shop the last couple of days.
