Street Legal Day, Fontana, Dec. 4

I know the date conflicts with a SoCal TPI Dyno Day, but is anyone else (besides me) interested?

I will be heavily involved in another "skunk works" project. The wheels are in motion.

Bill

I'm planning on going. I'll be in a red '91 Z28, I think I pitted with you and Vincent earlier this year.

Re: Street Legal Day, Fontana, Dec. 4

Well, due to lack of interest, not being fully prepared myself, and work, I won't be able to make it either. What about going on one of the test & tune nights? I've heard the track is not nearly as (over)crowded as on Street Legal Day.

If you go, Jon, be sure to let us know how you do.

Re: Street Legal Day, Fontana, Dec. 4

I ran a 12.999 at 107 and a 13.05 at 107. The 12.99 was my quickest E.T. (by a couple thousandths) so far but I was down about 3 mph from my last trip to the track in much warmer weather. I thought the cold air would help make some good power but maybe the storm system pulled some oxygen out of the air?

Old combo put down 75 rwhp less than current combo but consistently cut 1.7x or low 1.8 60' times. The best i have pulled out of this combo is a 1.89 so I guess it's time to send the converter in for a restall.

I still have a bog going from second to third that people standing next to the track confirmed they heard so I still need to figure that out. It does it every run at the track but less consistently on the freeway when the cars hot. I went by the dyno around 2:00 to see if we could strap it down and replicate the conditions but the group had already finished up so I'll need to find another time to figure that out.

The next track day is January 8th and it is coming soon. Hopefully there will be more thirdgens out there next time--only saw a couple today in a sea of Mustangs.

Not bad at all. A higher stall will put you well into the 12s. For me I have some problems to sort out before my next track appearance. Maybe this Spring for some shake down runs.

The problem may be is the rubber intake boot(snorkel) is colasping(sucking the boot close) at wide open throttle. Build your own air intake.

On my second run I was running a K&N throttle body cone and have done so in the past with the same issues. But you're right about needing to build my own intake as I think I'm leaving some power on the table there too. You guys have shown that the factory system has limited volume and can collapse and while the CFM on the cone should be good, part of it sits up against the hood and the rest of it is sucking warm air so it's not the perfect solution either.

I had the same 2-3 bog with the previous combo so this issue has been bugging me for several years now. The tranny was built by Bowtie Overdrives but I didn't love their shift kit and I installed a Transgo kit so it's possible that the two kits aren't playing nice together when the car is not hot--maybe something is sticking. I don't drive the car much and it doesn't always shift when I want it to so I'm leaning towards swapping in a full manual valve body while the tranny's out for the converter restall. If that doesn't fix the issue it will at least narrow down the possibilities.

Where did you put the IAT Sensor with the K&N cone filter? It has to feel the air coming.

My sensor is not plumbed into the inlet before throttle body. It's still on the plenum.
