New Bests Today at the Invasion
I was going to only post this over at the SC3G site but I could not find the fastest car list. Seems to have disappeared.
Anyways for posterity I went 113.11 at 12.09 in the quarter mile. A new best in both categories for me. The density altitude was pretty bad at over 3000ft. and rising as the day went on. When I got back to Dons and I was looking at my tires and I see that I had them over inflated. I was at 19.5lbs and they were wearing in the center more and the edges were untouched. I need to drop the pressure down to around 18lbs and see what happens.
I also need to do a better burnout. I remembered on the last run the guy had me wait while he added more water to the water box. I think I was doing a little hydroplaning on that burnout. The first one my burnout was to short and weak. However I did manage a 1.678 60' my best ever on the 2nd launch. All in all I had a very good time, enjoyed everyones company and looking forward to the next drags during cooler weather.

Nothing good for me, my combo didn't like the weather.
But...I wasn't the only one.

Re: New Bests Today at the Invasion
Way to go Allen!
I think everyone else did fine, too, given the bad air conditions.
I didn't make any new best times, but I had lots of fun.
I didn't see a lot of the cars and other stuff at the track since I was busy with the little problems that kept popping up, but I had a good time anyway!
(My car drove home fine and the stereo works now, so maybe it was just protesting all the abuse I put it through this weekend!)
Too bad about SC3G. Probably they are just updating. I hope it's not a virus or something, with all the posts disappearing and reappearing.

Re: New Bests Today at the Invasion
Had fun today. Only made three passes. These were the first three EVER for my new Combo and I was really surprised with the out come.
Run 1 (temp was cooler, no burnout, launched @5000)
60ft-2.1
1/8- 8.590@88mph
1/4- 12.99@111.6mph
Run 2- (temp was at 200, no burnout, launched @6000 clutch starts slipping off the line and between shifts)
60ft-3.0
1/8- 9.1@91mph
1/4- 13.4@115.4mph
Run 3- (temp was cool, no burnout, launched easy due to clutch slipping)
60ft-2.5
1/8- 9.2@89mph
1/4- 13.6@114mph
Today put some things into perspective for me like how much 2.73's suck especially with big 18's and a 315 Drag radial on them. Thats probably what sent my clutch home. I can't spin those meats in a puddle.

Yes, you need to drop the gear ratio down one full point to maybe 3.73's. You appear to have everything else in place for a solid performer.
To Don I bequeath my present motor. That will get him close to if not in the 11's with his driving skills.
To Burnout Bill I wish him a new Yank SS4000 torque converter and better consistant shift points. That should get him close to kissing the 11's. If not we will go from there. One step at a time.
To Vincent I wish him AFR 195 heads and while doing so a slight compression increase. Maybe even have the intake manifold opened up a tad more.
To Troy have better luck with your car and please Lord make sure his fans are fixed for good. Now get out to the track and see what she will do and we will go from there.
To Julie I wish her a new governor and some better luck.
To Kevin I wish he can find and fix his RPM drop off problem. Car looks promising otherwise.
For myself with the current motor I need to learn how to launch better. I think I know what to do the next time out.
For everyone, please Lord let us have better air at the track next time out.
One parting shot. TPI and shorty headers are nothing to sneeze at. Bottom line is don't believe everything you read on the internet. See the track results.

Re: New Bests Today at the Invasion
Allen kicked butt; I 'raced' him, and a 13.03 / 105(me) vs. a 12.09 / 113 (him), from my point of view, looked liked a moped racing a GSXR1000. OUCH!
I shall submit to the greater wisdom and install the recommended Yank SS4000 converter (that fits a 700R4? Yank's website starts at applications for 1993, from what I saw) and work on shift-point consistancy.
I had a great time despite the performance; man, going from a 12.91 to a 13.33 is a big-time reality check...but it's all in the combination.
Best of luck to all on our next time out. Hope everyone gets their problems straightend- out, and to those who seem to have no problems, I'm sure the best of times are yet to come.
Bill

My best time was sadly a 12.4 @ 114, my 1.8 60ft times on MT ET's are not helping lol. Kept bogging out of the hole w/my 3.08's!!!!

Re: New Bests Today at the Invasion
That was Julie in the Green 1991GTA. My car was the grey 1989GTA. I saw a third gen go in the low 11's and that could have been the blown car from Arizona. If so he made his own "air" and the weather was not a factor.
Bill your posi-traction went out on you and this is one of the reasons along with the weather why you went backwards. Do some research on the Yank SS4000 and just tell Yank it is for a 700R4 if there is a difference and while you are at it get Dave's opinion. Yank is having a Memorial Weekend sale right now so if you are interested get ahold of them first thing Tuesday. The reason I mentioned the SS4000 is it will have better drivability than the Yank PT-4000 that I have. Also the shift extension will fit like a glove with your power band. If you want to go for broke and keep that Vincent fellow away get the PT-4000.

Yes, 3.73's seem to be a good compromise between street and strip. IMHO that will help you quite abit. Might even kiss the 11's with better weather.

Thats moving out, specially in the weather we had yesterday. What color is your TA? I spoke to a female in a clean green TA while in line and also ran into TT84Z, good time over all but i'm dehydrated. Did anyone see the grey third gen w/a blower from AZ run?

You're car is easily a 11.7-11.8(or faster) w/the DA correction.
Your trap speed was good for solid 11 second pass as well. We both need better gearing and seat time(I got tree'd 3 out of my 4 runs!!!).

Re: New Bests Today at the Invasion
I was expecting a 12.8 on my 1st shake down pass then 12.4 after a harder launch, then 11.80's on my last pass. The 11 sec pass didn't happen lol.

I can hook you up with what ya need for 1/2 that price. BW 3.45 R&P All parts have been inspected and have the blessing of Dyno Don himself!

After the incident on the cruise, most of the AZ crowd went back to the hotel and did what we're known for... it made it easier to forget what we had a front row seat for. I think between the heat and the hangover none of us were at our best.
I did get the chance to school a 2010 Camaro SS with my GTA

The blown AZ car is my husband's car, he trailered the damn thing out and made exactly one pass. He just wasn't feeling it.

Hey, I remember those fox cars, I was next to you guys in the lineup! That's a nice clean TA!
I would have looked around in the pits and hi, but something bad happened in that pass, and that was the end of it for me too.

Re: New Bests Today at the Invasion
The blown grey RS from AZ is mine. Still working out the combo since this was it's second trip to a track. As my wife put it, I wasn't really feeling it after the event on the cruise. Getting to tech and finding out a hood hinge bolt had come out somehow between Friday and Sunday didn't start the day at the track well either.
For anyone who wants to know, the car does a good mph in the 1/4 with a fairly consistent 111 mph in Phoenix. It only did a 105 on Sunday. The ET for 111 has bounced between 14.7 and 12.7 on its track day in Phoenix and I only managed a 14.48 on Sunday mainly because I just wasn't into it and wasn't paying enough attention to trying to run a better time (left the line slow and skipped 2nd on the shift). If I can get the driver mod working right, it puts just short of 500 hp to the wheels and should be capable of much better times. Maybe next year.....
At least the GTA was getting faster on each pass. Now that the motor in it has 1000+ miles on it, I can hook the spray back up..... And decide if it needs any more supporting mods to make it a better track car without impacting its manners as a daily driver.

With the number of 3rd gens showing for the event, some thought might have to go into a 3rd gen group photo somewhere during the event next year.

That has the potential for some serious times. Like 10.xx runs. You just need to figure out how to get that power to the ground. I would imagine the density altitude in Phoenix would not be any better than Fontana.

Next is the driver mod.... When other people can shave 2 full seconds off the time there is definitely room for driver improvement.
