SFV junkyard, today, 5/11/2010

In case anyone is interested...

Today was probably the most unusual visit I've had to a junkyard. The yard was the large U Pick Parts on Telfair and Penrose in the San Fernando Valley. I found only a small handful of thirdgens with nothing of interest left on them, but, and here's the unusual part, there were 9 fourthgens(8 Camaros, of which 3 were 'verts, and 1 Trans Am[LT1]) and 2 Corvettes(an original '84[built in '83] and a '92 LT1/6-speed).

Unfortunately, all the Camaros had V6s. And before anyone gets too excited, all of the complete drivetrains were already gone from all the cars, including the Trans Am and Corvettes. And the entire front clips were also gone from both 'Vettes. And nearly all of the good swappable interior parts were gone too(or broken beyond repair). So, then, what's left to report on?

Two of the cars had full sets of seats in 'very good' condition(eh, one needs some explaining though), and both sets would be considered "desirable."

There was a set of grey(fourthgens would be Sand Grey, similar to thirdgen Medium Grey) Camaro 30th Anniversary fabric seats(30/over the striped logo, embroidered into the headrest), and the full set, front and rear were in excellent shape, no rips or tears, nothing broken-down about them at all... just dirty, as you'd expect of a junkyard car... but not even very dirty. Someone would really like these, I think.

The other set was a full set, front and rear, of fourthgen Granite Leather fully-articulating TA seats(like the GTA seats, but with the large round headrests, not the ET headrests), and these, too, were nearly flawless... well, sort-of, and this is what needs explaining...

Someone had tried to remove the seat covers, apparently too cheap to pay for the seats, which aren't expensive from a junkyard(some people, ugh...), and they broke the foam of the "accordian" side bolsters, which caused a couple of minor tears in the leather at those points. It was sad to see, since it's obvious these were perfect when this car entered the yard. But regardless, these look easily repairable and definitely usable, so someone would have that nice set of leather seats they've been wanting.

Front seats in yards usually go for about $20/non-electric and $30/electric, but I'm going by past purchases, not current ones, so I don't know if that's changed much or at all, but I have no idea what rear seats go for. But as I said, the matching rear seats for both sets were also excellent.

So unfortunately, after all the unusual "finds," all that's worth reporting on are the two full sets of seats. But as "desirable" as both sets probably are, I felt they're worth the report.

Wow I just tried to start a junk yard thread like this, I wish people would use or start something else like this that we can use to help each other with what's out there, I could have sworn I saw at least a couple cam/fb's up there that had a tbi or quad, but I have been to all the LA/OC PYP yards in 2 days and have seen a lot.
BTW I have bought seats in the last couple months and 2 fronts cost me about 80-90 none electric, their pricing seems cheap untill they add $20 in fees for every BS california green thumb up your azz tax they can come up with. All I can say is try and look your best, after being nasty dirty, I know, then find the ugliest cashier chick hope your the best looking guy there, flirt it up and you might be surprised how low prices can really go....don't ask me how I know this...or how well.
