Exhaust?

Ok, a few of you saw what my exhaust system looks like last weekend at the dyno. I have been looking at pictures and ideas on the exhaust board long enough to have a headache. So, my questions:

1. What does the stock dual cat setup look like?
2. My dyno numbers were low 200s, would a dual 2.5" cat setup be beneficial over a single 3" cat (I do want to add more power eventually)?
3. Either way, what are good bang for the buck cat(s)?

I'm open to any suggestions at this point.

Current:
Headers, ~1.75" OD I think

Y-pipe (2.25 or 2.5)

Size: 39.8 KB
cat

Size: 41.2 KB
After cat, going into a 2.75" OD pipe

And then it flows on out through a Flowmaster in the back.

Thanks!

Re: Exhaust?

That exhaust system looks ugly. I would go with the dual 2.5" cats if you are planning any upgrades at all. That wye pipe is costing you some horsepower.
So to some things up 2.5" pipe from the headers to the dual cats. Than 2 1/2" pipes from the cats to the wye pipe. Then 3" to the muffler. I would get a 3" Magnaflow or a Dynamax muffler. I think you will see a nice increase in power.

I see you are in California. You need to get a hold of Dyno Don. He does great work on exhaust systems.

Re: Exhaust?

I run 3 inch through a 40 series flowmaster. That y pipe is costing you quite a bit of horsepower. I ran 2.5 inch from shorties to y and immediately went into a three inch. The y pipe change alone picked my et up .2 seconds. I recommend running a three inch cat. It can easily handle 450 horses and will be cheaper on parts and labour than the dual cat set up.

Thanks!
A good 2 1/2 dual cat setup on your car will pick up horsepower. my guess is 12 to 20 over what you have.

I have 1 7/8 headers to dual 3 inch cats.

Re: Exhaust?

Yeah, Don was the one that originally looked under the car. I knew that I wanted to eventually replace it because it is ugly, just not sure what to replace it with.

Re: Exhaust?

That Magnaflow setup is about $850 just for parts.

I can do one custom for $750

Re: Exhaust?

That is one of the best power upgrades you can do. It will also benefit every upgrade there after.
