Valley junkyard visits: 11/24/07 and 11/15/07

My last junkyard report was on 9/06/07, so here's a few new findings from today and last week.

I stopped at the Pick Your Part yard on Pendleton at Glenoaks in Sunland this afternoon on my way home from work. IT'S 50% OFF THIS WEEKEND!!! So I wanted to mention a few things now so there'll still be time to for you to get over there tomorrow.

There wasn't much in interiors or engines to speak of, but there were some good body panels that people might be interested in, considering that these GM parts are no longer available new.

There were two '85-'90 base Firebirds with excellent front bumper covers(one white and one red).

There was one '85-'90 TA with an excellent front bumper cover(red).

There was one '91/'92 Firebird with a good gfx front bumper cover(white).

And there was a white '83 Z28 with a CFI engine(code S in '83). The engine was there; the air cleaner lid was there; AND the functional composite hood was there, intact and in good shape.

-----------------

And last week at the U Pick Parts yard on Penrose at Telfair(off Tuxford), there was a virtual gold mine of fresh thirdgens! I meant to post about this last weekend. I know, that doesn't do you much good today, but because there was so much good stuff there, some of it might still be there.

I got only a couple of things for myself, while another member here got a little more than I did... all very nice! But there was still a lot of good stuff when we left.

There was nothing to speak of in engines, but there were some IROCs and birds with still-nice-smelling clean interiors and bodies.

There was a 68,000 mile white 1990 GTA! Its 350 and aluminum driveshaft were already gone, and someone pulled its PBR calipers and e-brake cables(but he left the 10-bolt backing plates). But it had an excellent, complete tan leather interior and a nice 140mph/8000rpm instrument cluster. It even still had its cassette/eq radio(*****, not touch).

There was an '85-'90 metallic red TA with all good body panels, including an excellent hood and front bumper cover.

There were two '91 birds side-by-side, each with gfx front bumper covers(a white one and a red one). One cover was in good shape. The other had some minor damage, but was reparable.

There was a white IROC with good body panels, including its front bumper cover.

And there was a nice full set of ebony cloth 4thgen Firebird seats, front and rear.

Really, there were so many nice thirdgens there last week, that, even if the big stuff is already gone, there's bound to be a lot of little things of use to some of you. So if any of you visit the first yard tomorrow(remember, 50% OFF DAY), it might be worth it to stop in and checkout this yard, too.

Disclaimer time: As always, I don't buy and sell, so please don't ask. I merely let you, our group of thirdgenners, know about it when I find things of interest in the local yards. The rest is up to you.

Re: Valley junkyard visits: 11/24/07 and 11/15/07

Just an update...

I went back to pick-up a couple of small items from the first yard(Pick Your Part), where today was the last day of their 1/2 price weekend. I was there around noon, and everything I posted above was still there. So for those who might've been interested but didn't have time today, unless anyone showed up later in the day, it looks like it all survived 1/2 price weekend.

Then I went back over to the other yard(U Pick Parts), where I was middle of last week, so I could be current on the availability of the things I mentioned above, and everything I posted is still at that yard, too, including the tan leather GTA seats and the 69,381 mile 140mph instrument cluster(not electronic).

I need tan leather gta seats. That's awfully far away to see what condition their in.
Or I will have them re-covered in the next few months.

Re: Valley junkyard visits: 11/24/07 and 11/15/07

I'm the other member Tim mentioned without naming. My truck is liteally cramed full of things I picked up last week. I spent two days at the UPP yard. It was a rare goldmine of items. Thursday I got a 1991 complete 'vert top frame assy & tonneau cover. IROC hood with good louvers, wonderbar & 34mm sway bar, 36 & 24mm bars. I went back the next day and pulled the entire interior plastic trim panels and carpeting out of a low mile camaro. I had a debate with myself about getting the front seats from the car or not. The drivers side had a hole, the passenger side was perfect. I put them back in the car for someone else to enjoy. I just didn't have any more room for them on my cart or in my truck.

I forgot to mention I picked up a pair of C&C t-tops and some of the t-top trim pieces. Unfortunately I had to break pins off the locks to get them, but get them I did.

Lon

If you guys spot a mid 80's G body (Monte, GP, Cutlass, with a guage package let me know. I need a temp guage. In fact, to be safe I will take the whole 4 guage pod.

Re: Valley junkyard visits: 11/24/07 and 11/15/07

Julie, the driver's seat did have a tear along the stitching in the perforated insert, maybe 2" long. The rest of the seat was good, and the passenger seat was perfect. They tilted and slid easily, too, like they're supposed to. The seats and interior of this car even still smelled good, not like a junkyard car at all.

And injdinjn, there was a black mid-'80s Monte Carlo SS at the UPP yard last week... first time I've ever noticed one. So being an SS, it should have had the guage package, right? But sorry, I didn't check its interior, so I can't confirm if everything was intact or not. The only thing I checked out was its version of the L69(the only reason I even looked at it).

Re: Valley junkyard visits: 11/24/07 and 11/15/07

I know no one's interested in coming up to Lancaster, but I also know that some of you are always on the lookout for good earlier model years.

On my way home from the SFV junkyards yesterday, it was still daylight, so I stopped at the Ecology on 90th St. East, and there was a 1984 silver w/charcoal gfx Trans Am L69 car that looked like it should still be on the road!

It has a clean, excellent charcoal interior with two-tone(charcoal/grey) manually adjustable seats, and they're still almost perfect(one small tear in the shoulder area where the driver gets in and out). Even the stock charcoal GM floor mats are there(only damage is the vinyl binding).

The functional hood(known by the damaged functional air cleaner lid) was already gone, and the fender vents were gone. The only damage to the exterior is on the front gfx piece. Other than that, the body is excellent!

It's a very nice one, so I thought it was worth mentioning.
