Firebird vs. Formula

So the only difference is the drivetrain right? rear end, suspension, motor, WC tranny, etc?

I'm building a project car, and while looking for a roller I need to know if I buy a V6 firebird am I going to have to do a sh*tload more to get it to handle the power over a formula car?

Exterior they're the exact same right?

thanks.

Car: 1990 Pontiac Trans Am
Engine: 355 TPI siamesed runners
Transmission: Tremec T56
Axle/Gears: 12-Bolt 3.73
The suspension components are smaller and less effective on base model cars. V8 TBI's usually have 2.73 or 3.08 gears, while V6's have 3.23 or 3.42 gears, neither have positraction. The transmissions are identical when you're referring to V8's, while V6's have a different trans that isnt directly compatible with V8's. A V6 chassis will have different engine mounts, and a different tranny mount as well. It will have a smaller radiator, too. Not to mention you usually will not find power windows or door locks or mirrors in a base model.

good to know, well, this is going to be a pretty much race car, want it to be light as possible, don't care about power windows or locks. The radiator and motor mount thing sucks but I'll probably have to buy tranny mounts and motor mounts anyway, the frame still has the bolt locations right? And formulas don't have posi? Gay, I thought they did. But either way, the 9 bolt is going to get changed anyway. did base model firebirds come with digital dashes? or were they normal dashes?

also, suspension components meaning what? just stuff like springs/shocks or a-arms and stuff like that too? It's getting tubular a-arms, panhard rod, sway bars, etc. But I don't want to have to replace small stuff like steering components etc.

Steering box is going to be different, but stuff like tie rods, etc are the same.

Also, front brake lines need to be relocated to clear motor mounts.

Get a V8 bird. They do exist.
Whats your intent with the car? Race doesnt exactly cover it. Street driven? Tube chassis drag car? Salt flat car? Pikes peak climb car?

haha, no, it's basically going to be ragged edge streetable. Light weight, G-machine type of car. I don't care really about going fast in a strait line or how well it's going to launch. It's going to get railed through some corners pretty hard and at pretty high speeds.
