LACR closing

I will tell this like I read it.

In my July 2005 issue of the So Cal Chap POCI newsletter under June 8 business meeting minutes - new business "LA County Raceway may be closing within 12 to 18 months"

This is apparently on the LACR web site also.

like 1fsttgta said, it just means more people will be racing in the streets.

They treat the tracks like they are just a waste of money and do nothing for the benefit of the community, I know if there was a local track here where you could run for $5-$10, I wouldn't be tempted to race in the street.

Probably another case of people moving into the area next to a dragstrip, then complaining about the dragstrip, like at Pomona. Morons! You moved there knowing full well the dragstrip existed, you have no business complaining about it.

I'd like to see what these people would say if we took away their precious golf courses and coffee shops that exist on every corner, cuz they're obnoxious and bother me.

I dont know it seems pretty smart to me.
They move there and their property values arent worth $hit because of the drag strip. They then bitch and moan untill the strip gets taken down. And in its place goes up said coffee shop and golf course, maybe a mall and restraunts. Guess what, the morons' property value just tripled or quadrupled.
Then, you look at it from the city's point of view...
Whats a bigger generater of profit, a dragstip (which fair or unfair, people consider a nuisance), or a mall, restraunts, coffee shops, etc.

Believe me, I am. I love going to the strip and watching you guys struggle .
I just notice patterns in the society we live in.
It sucks, but this is a capitalistic society where money talks and bull$hit walks (a friend once told me that).
Carlsbad, Terminal Island, LACR. Realistically, there is NO WAY dragstrips can be profitable in SoCal unless they start charging $10 for parking, $20 per observer and $50 per racer. Property values are waaaay too high for that much non-money generating land which a drag strip requires.

C'mon Kevin, you know what I am doing to my car...how can I be anti- drag strips??

Agreed, regardless what the Police or Politicans are saying about wanting to "provide safe places to race," good ol' fashioned economics will win the battle everytime.

It happens all the time, a dairy, drag strip, gun range, etc. All were there long before the homes, but it is now objectionable for those that moved there. Personally I have no sympathy for the homeowners, since they knew full well that this place was there when they bought the home. Eventually the outcry from the homeowners will be be heard by their city council, so the city will take action and force them out with whatever means possible incuding re-zoning the property, not renewing their operating license, etd. All I can say is enjoy it while you can. You'll have some memories of the "good old days" to share with your kids.

Guys, it has nothing to do with homeowners wanting LACR gone, the rumor states that the gravel qaury next door wants the sand trap area for more profits. I will verify with Bernie and others at LACR on Friday. This sounds like as usual for past experience. I do know that Bernie was looking into relocating to Lancaster, the old fair grounds, but I don't know what ever happened to that.

I've actually never been to a drag before, but i've heard Fontana is really crappy, with people cutting and everything. And I am not about to go all the way to Lancaster just to run my car as fast as I can for 15-16 seconds, it just doesn't make sense to me.

And people wonder why there are so many street races..... it's free and it's local. But then you get the people who weave in and out of traffic, race eachother on a 2-way, 2-lane street into oncoming traffic, and don't bother trying to stop until they are 10 feet away from the nearest object they are going to hit.

You might actually want to look into Perris Auto Speedway, the newest 1/8 mile track for street legal cars running 7.0 (11 flat in the 1/4) and slower.

Fontana is a good track, but the SLDs are :thumbdn: I much rather go to the Summit, PSCA, Citgo races out there or the Private track rentals. Much more fun and many more runs.

As for street racing ... I used to do that a lot, but with the club scene coming out to race (from a couple years back) it is a joke and only for people looking for "respect" and approval from others. IMHO, low self esteem people that need to be idiots and put others at risk just so they look "cool".

Man I guess it's time to pack up and go move to a State that appreciates Car enthusiasts. This state is just closing down strips left and right. They even pass all these lame laws against cars, like decibel noise, all 76 and newer cars need to be smog. This state even blames the cars for the money they lost.
Peace Out,

damn all these closinga in CA and yet up here in UT they are building them... i guess Larry H. Miller (owner of the Jazz and about 42 car dealerships) is almost finished with a brand new road course race track out in Tooele(thats about 15 miles west of Salt Lake City). i dont know the details but its getting a lot of road racers up here excited..

Ken is right about the revenue of property tax.. since i work in the home mtg industry, in the last 5 years i have seen property taxes tripple in some cases. its the main reason people can not afford the homes.. example... average median price of an OC home is now $515,000... to estimate property tax.. you multiply that by 1.52% which makes your anual property tax $7,828 a year..which translates to $652.33 a month just for tax.. that sucks..

Back to topic

so it looks like Fontana is going to be even more over crowded.. nice..

Confirmed!

Well, I talked to some "people" and 2007 Hangover Nationals will be the last event for LACR. Within the next year or so, the gravel yard will take the Moto-X track and dig it up, then they will move onto the farthest point of the sand trap of the 1/4 mile track. Eventually taking LACR completely. This will be turned into (supposedly) an "Industrial Area" ... no new homes/shops. At the moment, there is no word about making a replacement track out there. I do see a very strong need to have one, especially if it was better maintained.

LACR will make some modifications at the request of Granite Construction (The Lease Holder) in return we will be able to operate for at "Least 2 More Years"!

See You at the Drags!

dam this blows, only problem with lacr is the crosswinds really, other that its always been a decent hooking track. fontana though is hit and miss on track prep, last psca race was terrrible, we couldnt hook the car to save our lives. the street legals are a joke at fonatana though, summit series and other events are much better for all out drag cars.

Well its not just you drag racers that are losing all your tracks...
this is exactly what just happend to to Mesa Marin(roundy-round) in Bakersfield-they build houses right up to it, people move in KNOWING there moving next to a track, and them they complain about the noise!!!! Its last race will be the October Classic... we also just lost El Cajon too... all thats left thats paved roundy-round on So Cal is Irwindale...just what the officals there need, more power!!!

We need to create a real "racing community"...neighborhoods where its ok to have project cars being working on outside your garage, burnouts down the street, no noise complants, parts stores on every corner, tracks with homes around them and no one complains!!! Wishful thinking...I know...

they are building houses like crazy there now. the deal with lacr is the property owner wants the land back, the property is owned by the granite company next to the track and they need more space apparently. so it has nothing to do with building houses around the place.

perris auto speedway just opened an 1/8 mile strip last week.
