smog people ripping me off
I took my car to get it diagnosis to see what's wrong with it. And you know what they told me. They said to change the exhaust all back to stock cuz it illegal. Can you say dum@$$. I have legal shorty edelbrock headers, dual 3in cats to a hooker. Only illlegal thing is the cut-outs before the cats. But he said that why its not passing smog cuz of the whole exhaust system not being stock. I'm pissed off cuz I paid 65 dollars for the diagnosis. Can I fight this and get my money back?

also cause thirdgens never came with dual 3" converters, and having cut outs will still fail you.. because in CA you cant have those..
but them telling you to change it back to stock is half right.. headers are OK... the cats and cut outs are not... good luck man

Alright I talked to the guy. He said that with the exhaust that I have gives no back pressure, so the makes the egr valve not work. Is that true?? Why can't I have dual 3 inch cats?? My car cam with dual cats, just making them both 3 inches doesn't make them illegal. And he didn't say nothing of the cut-outs. But can I really have lil back pressure for having edel shotry 1 5/8, dual 3 inch cats to a 3 inch intermediate pipe to hooker aerochamber exhuast that has 3 inches in and dual 2 1/2 inches out? Can anyone help me out.

yes its technically illigal to modify pollution control devices.. such as catalytic converters EGR valves ect... so technically thirdgens never came with dual 3".. and there for would violate the ordinance.. he probably didnt even need to say your cut outs before the cats were illegal because its just that, you cant have those .. period.. kinda like a given.
about the back pressure.. not too sure on that one but if i had to guess i would say thats not entirely true..
so what did they do? did they even put it on the rollers and pull gas #'s? or just fail you on the visual? if so.. you probably need to go back to dual 2.5 cats, eliminate the cut outs.. that would get you to pass the visual.
do you have the tubes from the cats still attached that go to the AIR tubes on the headers?

Man, the place I go to never does the visual.
Come to Moreno Valley, most places here just put your car on the rollers, wham, bam, you're done.
I probably would have failed twice if they did the visual due to a rotted I-pipe.

Don is outstanding at figuring out how to modify egrs to work with modified systems. He has a smog guy that will do pretests, if your car runs clean enough to pass, he hooks it to the computer and does the test. If it doesn't run clean enough, you have an idea what to do to clean it up.
