Possibly visting CA for a week.....

Hey guys.. Im sure you wont recognize my screen name due to the fact Im from the East Coast... Anyway.. I have vaction time coming up (X-Mas to New Years) and Ive always wanted to vist CA. I really want vist parts of CA that are "big" on cars. I really wanna see where the modification scene is big. I know this is sounds confusing.... Im not interested in seeing old muscle...Im more interested in seeing wild Domestic/Foreign FUEL INJECTED cars (definatlly wanna see thirdgen F-Bodys!!!!!...Junk Stangs...Acuras ect ect). Obviously CA is a lot bigger than NJ (where Im from) so Im unsure as to what parts I should vist. The only parts of CA I hear I should vist are LA, San Franciso and San Diego.... I do NOT plan on staying in one part of CA for my trip..... Id LIKE to vist different parts of CA while Im there.. IF I go to CA I will be purchasing my plane ticket around 11/15..

I know this isnt *completely* 3rd gen related so Im hoping the mod here Kevin91Z(?) will not lock or delete this. But If you do decide this since it isnt thirdgen related can you please lock this so people from CA can PM/email me at flame34@aol.com?

Thanks in advance...

Dan

There are a couple other "visiting California" threads on this board for you to search out. Be careful as they get heated. Not every place in CA is friendly.

For racing interests, be sure to check out the Peterson Museum and the NHRA Museum.

I don't think we have any 'Meets' planned on those dates as yet, thats more of a family oriented time, but it sounds like you may want to check out

http://www.immortalscarclub.com

They have a wider variety of cars that you're interested in.

Kevin91Z~ A few questions... How come threads like this get heated? What places should I avoid in CA? Im assuming you're gonna let this thread go on so I must thank you. I'll do my best to make sure it doesnt get heated and that this thread stays on track.

Jon92TA~ Thanks for the link... I know thats its a time for family to be together but my family puts the "fun" in disfuncional so its not a big deal if I dont see them on Holidays... I was hoping that something may come up so I can say I flew 3000 miles just to go to CA Fbody meet.

LOL...

Seriously though, its kinda cold already, so the beach would be out of the question ( unless you get a wet suit).
If you are into clubs, here in the south bay, we got the strand in hermosa beach, if you are in the LA area, there is hollywood blvd which is got some pretty cool clubs, then there is old town pasadena which has got a lot of clubs.
Plenty of nightlife if you know where to look.

At the race tracks would be one place to see the cars you're describing, but I don't think there are any meets around the holidays.

In Palmdale at LACR (Los Angeles County Raceway) there are the "Hangover Nationals," January 1-3. It tends to bring out a lot of the big boys. 10 and 11 second cars are the norm with very few cars running much higher than 12's. They usually have at least a couple of jet powered cars as well making exhibition runs. Unfortunetly, the fastest cars often have trouble making complete passes because it's too cold(40's) to get traction, but those are generally only the sub-9 second cars. It's really the only major event I attend annually.

Gotta thank you guys for all the responses...

Despite being 24 years old Im not into clubs at all...nothing wrong it clubs..its just not my thing. Im kinda into bars but to me bars are bars. The only question I have so far is...(I think im gonna get flamed for this) how cold is it in CA in Dec/Jan???? Is Northern California is the same (temp wise) as Southern California?? I KNOW its kind of a dumb question but Ive only seen the east cost. Ive NEVER traveled west...ever!

Btw...I did a search for visting CA threads and couldnt find any.... Does anybody have links for me? I think it would be a good idea for me to read some other threads...this way I dont ask any more dumb questions...

Dan

Dec/Jan your probably looking at mid 60's to low 70's during the day and low 50's at night in SoCal. It occasionally gets colder, but can just as easily be in the 80's. Here in the L.A./O.C. area we have mountains with several choices of ski resorts an hour (Wrightwood) to an hour and half (Big Bear) away from us. In those areas you can bet the weather is going to be a whole lot colder(highs from 40's to 20's depending on the day). The race track I mentioned ealier is actually on the other side of the mountains from the L.A. area in the high desert (about 80 miles away) and it is quite a bit cooler than the L.A. area, but still a little warmer than the mountains. California is a big state with several different climate zones so it all depends on where you go. Having said that Northern California does generally get quite a few more storms and tends to have cooler weather.

Last Post before I leave....

Well in a couple days I'll be leaving for Southern CA!!! Cant wait! Can you guys tell me what the weather is gonna be like when I get out there? I'll be in Venice (sp?) Beach for a couple days and then off to San Diego. I wont be renting a car due to $$$ issues. Hows the bus system out there? Easy to understand or should I just "bite the bullet" and rent a Geo Metro.

Later..

Dan
