Power Failure

Sunday I opened the Hatch to clean the window on my TA.Closed the Hatch and went on about washing the car, when I noticed that it did not pull down.Well turns out I no longer have Power to the Hatch Motor. 15 amp fuse is good and I have 12v at the fuse.Tried several fuses, just in case.Wiring diagram shows red wire with white stripe is supposed to be "Hot" always.Any ideas anybody. All the other fuses are good and everything else works.I tried all of "Lon's" tricks including swaping in and out Switches and Motors. Is there anyplace along the path that the wire takes to get to the rear of the car that it could have been broken ????.TIA

Fuse

Are you sure you are checking the right fuse? It's the one under the fuse box. (bottom of it)

You know what.. I think I need to check out the wiring for that on my car as well. I messed up the power door locks in my car by making a bad connection under the engine bay, and I've feared that it powered the hatch pull down as well, so I haven't been opening it I guess I'll have time to check it out in a couple weeks.

Yes Don its the only fuse not in the fuse block and taped right next to the fuse block. Acording to the Helm Manual that is the only fuse for the Hatch Motor. I'll tear into it this weekend and if I have to I can always run a second wire back there just to pull the hatch down till I find the problem.Everything was changed back there after the car was Rear-Ended,so I have the updated motor Etc.I dont think I have opened it more than 25 times in the last 3 yrs. Oh well I'll let you know.

You are correct that the for the 1986 modell year the fuse powering the hatch pull-down is external of the main fuse block. It sounds as if you have an open in the line and will have to tear out the interior panels to trace it back. I'd trace it forward from the rear, testing it until I find the problem.
