Re: Any 3rd Genners in Tucson?

I am still here running the streets on the East Side.I see a few third gens as I seen one today, but dont think they know about this website or to scared to drop and line and say hi,or just dont care.I am finally finishing up a cam and head swap, nothing crazy as its a V6 and a daily driver, after being down for almost a month..I took it to work for the first time today was real nice to be back in the saddle again, not to mention how well its running.Plus the weather is getting better, gas prices coming down and I am ready to take the TT's off for a good cruise.I hope your son and your firebird have many good times together..you will find that this website will be your best buddie when times go rough with your firebird.

Re: Any 3rd Genners in Tucson?

I'm not around here much any more. I sold my twin-turbo 1987 IROC-Z last year. Actually, I sold all the turbo stuff as a "bolt-on" kit to a guy in Pennsylvania. He recently got his third gen Firebird running and dynoed it -- around 680 rwhp if I recall correctly. The car itself was sold locally. It now resides on the NW side. You'll see it running low 15s at SIR quite frequently. It kind of pains me to see this because I ran a best of 12.004 with this car when it was supercharged back around 2001.

Today, I still own one third gen. It's a life-long keeper. I only drive it once or twice per year, less than 40 miles total. East side and Rita Ranch.

My daily driver is no longer a GM. So if any of you east siders see a red Shelby GT500 with white stripes, flash your lights or honk or wave or something!! The driver may know a LOT more about third gen Camaros than you'd ever imagine anyone driving a Ford.

Hey, it might be a Ford, but it's a sweet Ford Willie. One day you'll get another project thirdgen. One day.

Synapsis converted to the dark side as well, with his F150 Lightning. Also a sweet Ford.

I kinda wanna pick up a Jeep for offroadin, or an old Chevy truck. One day. :P

Re: Any 3rd Genners in Tucson?

Well I wouldn't say I've converted..... Behind the dark tinted windows of my GT500, you'll see me wearing my Chevy hat...... (figuratively that is). It's just that I don't like anything Chevy has any more and the S197 Mustang takes me back to the first two cars I owned as a teenager, a '69 Mach I and a '70 Boss 302... I know I'm dating myself.

I've owned 13 third gen Camaros since 1983 and was driving at least one of them daily until around 2003. It was through these latter years that I recall posting many times that I could afford much newer / faster / better handling cars but my love for the third gen kept me from buying anything newer. It eventually caught up with me and became time to move on....

Eric (Synapsis) bought his L after I bought one about four years ago. I then sold it and bought an '03 Cobra. Then an '05 Mustang GT and then my current car. If you've never been in an S197, there are many aspects of it that resemble the third gen.

And if any of you see the Mustang in this pic, it's my wife's car. My father-in-law is a 30 year GM guy...... Interesting huh?

Re: Any 3rd Genners in Tucson?

Your Red Stang looks familar Willie..more like the license plate.Probably seen it a time or two.Your missing one thing on that car though..You need one of those stickers that says "my other car is a camaro" He-He..Nice car though..wait till the new camaros come out.You might have a change of heart.I drove by Bill Breck and seen the new Challengers out front along 22nd (very nice and tough lookin).I have to admit I was a Dodge boy before my chevy days..72 340 Duster.Roommates in Phoenix had a 70 challenger 318 CID and the other had a 71 cuda 318 car.Someone liked my Duster so much it disappeared from my parking spot and dismantled it and scattered all the pieces around Tucson.I got the engine back though..and sold it for a 72 SS chevelle.I am actually getting ready to check out a 91 Z28 in the next day or two if it looks as good in the pics,as its does in person I will probably bring it home.

Re: Any 3rd Genners in Tucson?

I suppose it could be the car or the plate because this plate was on my silver '03 Cobra. That car was not very noticeable. I've found my current ride to be similar to driving a strobe light. It just plain stands out.

I like your license plate frame idea!! Really.... but I'd probably have one custom made to say "1987 Z28 convertible". Like I said, I've been GM for most of my life. This won't change regardless of what I drive.

The new Camaro just doesn't do anything for me. In fact, I don't see any obvious cues that might be considered retro. FYI, the fourth gen never grew on me either.

Prior to my GM "affiliation" when I bought my first NEW car, an '83 Berlinetta, I was Mopar. I love the new Challenger. My friend with an '05 Mustang GT with an Eleanor body kit and Whipple had an opportunity to run a new Challenger last week. Let's just say the new owner was "slightly" embarassed..!! I've owned a half dozen '70 Challengers, the most notable being an 4-speed pistol grip Plum Crazy R/T convertible with white longitudinal stripes and a white interior. I've also owned a couple of 318 Challengers.

This fall, I'm taking my '87 Z out of storage where its been since Jan 4, 2004 and bringing it home. It will be on a flatbed as the fuel pump died last November. I'm planning on getting it running and a near future project involves removing the engine / tranny for cosmetic sprucing. Neither will be disassembled nor rebuilt as it does not need it. Although it is now 98 percent original, I'm going 100 percent, except maybe a few unseen poly bushings here and there...

Re: Any 3rd Genners in Tucson?

Whoa! nice rides you got there mecham and willie. I'm trying to get my GTA running (yes its not running..........again ) at the moment which needs a new ECM but the way things are going at work it'll be a while it sux having to drive an '87 honda with 98 hp. Before I click the 'submit' button I thought I'd mention that I saw a red trans am on 6th ave for sale yesterday which I dont know the year but its a 85-92 model due to the ground effects. It appears to have a nice red paint job as well as some aftermarket rims. The price on window is listed as $3800 and is sitting outside a drive-thru liquor store which I dont know the name of but I can find out if anyone is interested. Just thought I'd put it out there if any one is looking for a nice t/a. Alrite guys take it easy.

Phoenix

Re: Any 3rd Genners in Tucson?

I loved Willie's TT 305. That car was a beast. It's so sad. If I had to buy an American car nowadays, and the Corvette wasn't an option, I'd get either a new Mustang, Charger, or a 300. Chevy doesn't make a single vehicle that appeals to me other than the Vette, and I join Willie in his sentiment on the new Camaros. Hell, have they even released the V8 engine data yet? I know the I4 is gonna be the problem-prone Turbo I4 out of the Pontiac Solstice/Saturn Sky, the V6 is gonna be a de-tuned version of the same engine running the Cadillac CTS.... What's the V8 gonna be?

Plus GM shot themselves in the foot by claiming the Camaro is a "luxury car." That was the beauty of the Camaro. You could get a dirt cheap small engine car that looked fast, or you could drop big bucks and be just as fast as you looked. The way GM wants it, you'll be spending big money whether you get the big engine or not. Stupid. The Mustang is gonna sell so well against the Camaro I'll be amazed if it survives as long as the new GTO did.

Re: Any 3rd Genners in Tucson?

I was reading in the new maxium mag...that the new camaro V6 will be rated @ 300 Hp..Anyone read this article?..whats your opinions.Welcome to the East Side hart7631...grew up and work on the east side. Not to bash any religious people or types ..but the only thing that bothers me is the amount of churches popping up around the east side. They are almost like circle K's one a mile from each other in any direction?.now they are turning them into schools..I guess they dont get enough from the Gov.

was checking out the article in the mag again and it states the 3.6 will have a respectful 300HP and the 6.2 V8 will have 420..with the 6 speed having 395HP and it will run on 4 cylinders under light acceleration and load??..Hows that for you FOrd Lovers??..having second thoughts anyone??..

I'm in Rancho Sahuarita, and haven't seen another 3rd gen around here. I would come up for get-togethers if you don't mind two old farts! (my 17 year old car that needs body work, and my 44 year old a$$!)

It's two-tone white and white primer(!!), with t-tops. It's ugly, but it gets 26 MPG on the highway!
