ThirdGens car club?

Lately I've noticed alot more ThirdGen F-bodies around Phoenix
and surrounding area's. I know some of you guys attempted to
start a ThirdGen club, but I think it's about time to try again.
What are your thoughts on this?

Let me know.

F-Bodies

Didn't a bunch of you guys come to Vegas a month or so back? There were a bunch of F-Bodies from AZ that came to the races and had some sweet cars.

With all due respect to AZFBA, I would love to see a third gen. only club here in AZ.

The 4th genner's with their 11, 12 and 13 second time slips with minimal or no mods are fine, but me, I've got 155,000 miles on a 13-year-old LB9. I'm lucky to turn 15's with all the weight I've added and all the years on the car.

They have a nice web site and tech page, but when the engines, computer, emissions and electrical are so different, they typically can't offer anything like thirdgen.org or a dedicated 3rd gen. club could.

Given a choice between ANY local 3rd gen specific club and AZFBA, I would take the 3rd gen. club in a heartbeat.

Yes, I am a member of AZFBA, and have attended a several of the events, but I've not been impressed. The in-fighting, poor leadership and a few "unique" members have left me thinking that a better job could be done.
There is a reason the AZFBA does not have more technical and authoritative posting going on on it's boards. I'm not saying that those people would join us, but I REALLY think that a dedicated 3rd gen. club would be a GREAT thing.

i agree with soem of your points. but the way i see it, 3rd gens came off the floor running in the 14-15-16's. thats jssut cuase of the emissions/engiens at the time but we can always make them faster. and usually for ALOT cheaper then an LS1. plus AZFBA only has a handful of 10 (well, just bryce) 11, and 12 secs cars. 13's are all LS1's.. then then there is drew haha. so i dont mind being 1 of the few 3rd gens in the club.. but thats prob cuase i can kick most of the cars butts.. *gotta represent * then again, the last time i was at the strip was

No offense, but what respect is there to give? There's too much
uncontrolable negative action going on in there, and by this I
don't mean the whole outfit. There are some that just don't know
the definition of respect and it needs to come to an end. And from
others view points, as well as my own, it's not going to end.
There has to be a line draw somewhere.
As for "fair to fast" cars, I've seen plenty of older generations of
F-bodies out run a 4th gen. Sure some of us have heavier cars,
with more "junk in the trunk". But if you step back and look at it
from a stand point, all 'stock' cars have different set up's. And the
newer the car, the lighter, sleeker & faster they will go, off the
show room floor. But this doesn't suffice for them to disrespect us.

They have a nice web site and tech page, but when the engines, computer, emissions and electrical are so different, they typically can't offer anything like thirdgen.org or a dedicated 3rd gen. club could.
True, they do have a nice web site and tech set-up. And you're
right. The LS series is a completely different line of drive train.
Everything is computers no-a-days, and I don't really care too
much for computers. Am I against them? No. I just simply would
like the respect of owning a peice of history and doing what I
like to do to it, and not get bashed for it. (i.e. 3rd gens suck) type
of disrespect. This is why I'd like to see a 3rd gen club.

Given a choice between ANY local 3rd gen specific club and AZFBA, I would take the 3rd gen. club in a heartbeat.
I know there are others that would like it as well. I'm one of them.
I know that not everyone can meet at certain times and places.
But to have patience and start some kind of 'family' would be
pretty nice, without the BS of course.

Yes, I am a member of AZFBA, and have attended a several of the events, but I've not been impressed. The in-fighting, poor leadership and a few "unique" members have left me thinking that a better job could be done.
I sometimes wonder if I'm actually a 'part' of AZFBA. I goto the
Pavilions (not just for AZFBA) and I feel the "VIBE" in the air, which
is more distant that it is together. In person, they're cool. Behind
locked doors, they talk the talk but don't walk the walk. In the
end it's just a big contest of who's got the biggest, baddest *****
of them all. And NO one needs "all that".

There is a reason the AZFBA does not have more technical and authoritative posting going on on it's boards. I'm not saying that those people would join us, but I REALLY think that a dedicated 3rd gen. club would be a GREAT thing.
I think any club without the disrespect would be a GREAT thing.
If they dismiss me, it won't be like I'm missing out on anything.
I don't feel the conection there. So if it means starting a 3rd gen
or a "classic" F-body club, then cool. I wouldn't mind seeing the
older F-bodies as well as third gens... 67-92.

Just my feelings.

I used to be a member of AZFBA before they started having dues and what not for the website. I just wasn't up with the vibe that they put out. A lot of the guys were really nice but it seemed like the hole thing was just time bomb waiting to explode. Strange part is that even though I'm no longer a member, I still get emails and updates from them. Oh well. Getting a 3rd gen only club though is a good idea but it's going to take a lot of work to get it up and running, not to mention money. Plus there needs to be a few people that have the time to dedicate to the club. I've been part of the few 3rd gen clubs and all had potential. Especially AZTGO, but they just fizzle out and die. If there is to be an AZ 3rd gen club, there needs to be leadership, devotion(members and leaders), and even though most do not like to hear it, dues.

That's my $0.02 though.

ThirdGens car club

Well I've had my web site up for a few months now.
Hardly costs anything to run my web site and
I'm using it to promote the car club. It's a start and it's free to
everyone else. I've built a small message board and added some
pages and links. For the most part, it's just an inexpensive way
to start this up. Now reguardless if others want to join in or not,
I still intend to continue forward with it. I'm working out a few
idea's for creating a logo for the club. Also, I'm trying to find a
better location for a meeting spot, something centrally located.
Back in 1990 I was a part of Brian McCormick's Truckin' club in
Glendale, and we used to have meetings at Fudd Ruckers. Lately
everyone seems to enjoy hangin out at any of the Sonic locations.
I'm open to suggestions, that is who ever is serious about trying
to make this work.

im totally down with a AZ 3rd Gen club. AZFBA is cool for some of the discounts we get, and they can help you in the forums once in awhile, however ive noticed its pretty much just a group of people who are friends, and the rest are just outcasted, such as myself. Also, ive also felt that disrespect from them of having a 3rd gen :-\ anyways, im up for paying alittle cash to see things work out and would be willing to help get a decal up and as far as meeting place, im in east mesa, so anything on this side of the pavillions im down for. Apple Bees is where we usually go before our football games, and its nice.. happy hour an ****, so we could meet there maybe? or there's a sonic just off the 202 on Country Club

I'm down. I think it would be nice to have an all thirdgen club. I was kinda hoping aztgo would survive but like they already mentioned it fizzled out. It would be nice to have our own site, club etc. Where we can all hang out/share info etc. and also not have have the almighty 4th genners thinking that they are superior than everything else. If this actually works out I am down to help organize events etc. I may not be able to attend all of them but I will still help organize

EDIT: I also think there should be different "Sectors" (thats not the word Im looking for) ie: E.valley (phx) W. valley (phx, tucson (sthrn az) then maybe even a northern az part ie: flagstaff etc.
And then each sector etc. could have 1 or 2 people that are the "leaders" and are responsible for organizing events in their area and arranging things with the other "leaders."
I nominate myself for an E. valley "leader"

There could be "crew"s down the road, but there needs to be a club first.

Enough talk about AZFBA.

Lets do this thing!

Let me just say this... NO NO NO!
The last thing we need is another AZFBA-sectioned club.
Right now I'm looking to start something for the Phoenix Area.
If others want to start up, such as Flagstaff or Tucson, they
can always start up a group under the title of the club.
As for the Phoenix area, it needs to be one group as a whole
or there could be complications... exhibit A= AZFBA.

While it's nice to see people that want to step in and take
a position that's great. So far I see Chris and myself working
together to getting this club on it's feet. As for other moderators
and such, it'll have to wait.
Right now we want to get 3rd gen owners to come to a meeting
place that we can all agree upon.

That's it for now.

That's fine. If they show, they show. If they don't, then oh well.
Move on. Keep going. Eventually more and more will come along
and join in. Sure, it might not happen over night nor within the
first month. But persistance is what get's things going, not the
quiters.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say AZFBA mostly have NOTHING in common with the average thirdgenner, and to me they seem like snobs.

Ahh, well, looks like maybe I should get in on this...

I would LOVE to see a ThirdGen only club around these parts. Heck, Tempe might even be a good place to make a few meet points based on what I've seen for member locations. I would be more than happy to help out in getting this things feet wet. Although I am in NO place financially to be supportive, I'd have to say I've got a few creative bones in my body! Heck, my "Team HORSEPOWER really didn't seem to go anywhere, wanna use it? I've already got the sticker...

count me in, but I have nothing against the AZFBA. I have had alot of help and info from quite a few members (both 3rd and 4th gen owners), and I wouldn't feel right just ditching one club for another. So I'll be "club hopping" and hit as many events as I can between the 2 clubs

Seriously though, it would be nice to have a lot full of 3rd gens There were quite a few 3rd gens there at sonic a few nights ago!

Well it's nice to see others showing interest online, but what
about in person? Sure, Tempe sounds nice to have a hang-out
but at the same time it's tough for everyone else to come and
meet up. So right now we're working on a more central location.
As for the club, TGAZ, we're working on a new logo design to
conform to the older generations of camaro's and trans am's as
well. We're still working on it and nothing is final yet.

While that might not seem like a problem, problems might rise in the near future of being in two clubs. Sure there are great people
in AZFBA but some of the things that go on could be done without.
It's cool that you goto as many events as possible. I sure would
like to get out more.

Third Gen Club...

It's nice to see some of you would like this to work.

So I'm setting a date & time for a first 'unofficial' meeting.

Saturday November 8th, 6pm @

The Scottsdale Pavilions (Indian Bend & 101 @ McDonalds)

Everyone's input on this will help this to work best for all.
This should give everyone a head start to get the day off.

We'll hope to see all of you out there.

Both of those are a lil' ways away from my house, but option A is BY FAR closer so thats my vote if thats where its going to be.

BTW I said Tempe because from what I've seen it seems rather central for people in the area...

I have an event on the night of the 8th, so I won't be able to attend

I'm not opposed to a Tempe meeting place, it's just that Tempe is a 45 minute 1 way drive...

Maybe 83 Daytona can get everyone's general location, we can map it out and select the best place to meet based on that?

Maybe 83 Daytona can get everyone's general location, we can map it out and select the best place to meet based on that?

my $.02
Agreed. I like being as fair as possible. Just for the record, though:

Third Gen Club...

Well to be honest about the whole meeting thing, those two
Sonic's I posted are centrally located. Keep in mind this is for
all parts of the valley, North, South, East & West. I noticed there
are a couple of people that live at the extreme
west end of town. Also, Chris lives the farthest north, so it's a
medium for everyone.

Elliot & Kyrene?
That's where I have lunch/dinner sometimes when I'm at work.

No way in hell i can make it out to Union hills for meetings. Maybe once in awhile but no way. Pavillions is as far east/north as i can get most of the time. plus that place is the hang out for AZls1/lt1 and most of the AZFBA guys. Woulnd't give us much of a seperation of clubs iuf we hang out with all the same people..

Mike, you know im for it. Id love nothing more than to have a thirdgen club, or pre-92 f-body club. Lets get serious this time and see how many people we can get together to actually join.

Third Gen Club...

aziroc: Sorry to hear you lost your post (i hate when that
happens). But in all honesty, without any prejudice...
We DON'T want to be where other clubs are going to be.

Like Joe and someone else said, IF we're going to have a
NEW club, then we've gotta get people together somewhere
where there isn't a distraction of another club. After all,
we're trying to build TGAZ, not another LS1 club (not that
I have a problem with LS1's, cause I don't).

As for the location(s) that I've chosen, they're both centrally
located for everyone. Some that live extremely on the out-skirts
of town will obviously have a slightly longer drive. But think of it
this way... If we were to choose say the Sonic in Tempe, most
of the western end of Phoenix wouldn't show up, just like the
eastern end of Phoenix wouldn't show up to 35th & Union Hills
Sonic.
If you look up yahoo! maps with those addresses you will see
they're both in the middle of Phoenix, between ALL of us.

Sure Pavilions is the "largest carshow in AZ", and we're not
talking about meeting necessarily on the same night (saturday).
We could make a meeting time for Friday nights if need be.

heres my rant/vent.

i get the "Oh its a 3rd gen" quite at bit from the peeps that have newer cars. Heres my take on it, i dont bash your ride cause its newer or older so dont bash mine. I drive a Ford truck for daily driving and whatever else the camaro cant do, mostly cause it out powers it; so why do "You" constantly say its a FORD they're junk, its not like i go around saying chevys, dodges & pontiacs are crap just cuase you say fords are crap. Yea i like to own both, I have 2 Chevys and 1 Ford. frankly i'd like to say "F" off it gets me from point A to point B it gets better mileage and its less bumpy. I still dont like RÏçêý fart-tips.

I dont have any complaints with how AZFBA conducts a meet (except the usual, know-it-alls) but sure some guys get butt hurt over little $hit, some bark but they have little or no bite, yea sometimes it really pisses me off when i get "oh its a 3rdgen" or "oh you drive one of those" i usually just ignore it or change subject but ocassionaly you run into the village A-hole.

im still waiting on parts for my car "Error404" knows what im taking about, the cam and springs are the major holdup then comes the water pump, chainset, and other goodies. I will have these parts one of two ways(either it gets mailed or i am flying to florida to get the cam) i was hoping and pushing to be ready for the show down in tucson but that isnt going to happen

since i dont have much time for the car shows and meets and such i wont be making those (im self employeed on call 24/7-365)

So I'm setting a date & time for a first 'unofficial' meeting.

Saturday November 8th, 6pm @

Sonic: 742 E Mcdowell Rd
or
Sonic: 9606 N 19th Avenue

Everyone's input on this will help this to work best for all.
This should give everyone a head start to get the day off.

We'll hope to see all of you out there.
Im up to making this happen, though keep in mind i cant and am not usually at most of the events in AZFBA. pavillions to F'n far thats over 60 miles for me to go one way. Sonic: 9606 N 19th Avenue. would work for me the following day i have wedding reception to go to for my friend.
