Anyone Been Pulled Over For Drag Racing?
Yeah....I got busted last night for "Exhibition of Speed - Racing" as the ticket sais. They estimated me going 70 in a posted 45, and got me for drag racing. It's a criminal traffic violation. If you are reading this and have been sited for the same thing or something close to it, could you please let me know what kind of fines I am looking at? More than likely, if it's more than $5 I won't be able to pay it, but I think I'd rather know now than wait for the suprise on my court date.
I guess, to look at the VERY DIM bright side of it, I did win, and it was against one of Honda's sportier cars.....

you can search online... what city it happened in also makes a difference. Glendale you're screwed sorry to say..
you really should call the court house who's numbr is on the ticket ask the minimum and maximum penalty's.. ask if they will let you do driving school.. NOt to sound like the grim reaper but there is most likely short jail time with the maximum of that ticket.. so you need to get on the ball....
i once got caught racing i was "believed" to be going 90 in a 35 but the police car was just "pacing" me (playing catch up) and i knew his ticket wouldnt hold up.. so he only gave me speeding and i went to traffic school.. sorry but thats the worst racing story that i ever got caught in...

Arizona Drag Racing Laws:
Arizona Law defines "Drag Racing: as: (a) The operation of two or more vehicles from a point side by side at accelerating speeds in a competitive attempt to outdistance each other; or (b) The operation of one or more vehicles over a common selected course and from the same point for the purpose of comparing the relative speeds or power of acceleration of the vehicle or vehicles within a certain distance or time limit.
"Racing" is defined as the use of one or more vehicles in an attempt to outgain or outdistance another vehicle or prevent another vehicle from passing.
Both are specifically against the law in Arizona (ARS §28-708), and if convicted twice in a 24-month period, there is a mandatory jail sentence required.

Well....thats just lovely.....yeah for my stupididty!! This is the first time for said offense, unfortunatly driving school has been taken in the last 2 years. Seriously this week couldn't get any better. Just lost my job too..... The thing is, I don't know how serious of a level it's on, I wasn't clocked, I got "Paced" also, and they didn't arrest me or make me do any sobriety tests or anything, just wrote me a ticket like anything else. (There were 2 cops, and they got us both) Ahh heck....I'm gonna go puke now....

It was in Tempe, SB on McClintock (I had just left Amado's) According to the officers they were behind us the whole way (lasted 2/3 mile)

I got busted on that 2x before our track reopened. Its like 230$ fine + court fees. I actually had a witness with me and argued it out in front of the judge. I ended up just paying 55$ for court fees and nothing more. Other time I took drivers improvement.
Good luck

Actually you may be in luck. I know here in Tucson, a buddy of mines father got the same ticket and he wasn't speeding. We were going to take it to court and then we found that for the exact same ticket you've got, there has to be an EXACT speed. They can not charge you for "Exhibition of Speed - Racing" with an estimated speed. You may want to speak with lawyer about this. It might mean the difference between keeping your license and 8 points, lossing your license, and getting fined up the wazoo.

yah bro that **** sucks ***. sorry to hear u got that ticket i know how it feels. i got a ex of speed in a school zone. now how stupid can u be huh. but on tha bright side tha sheriffs dept out in cali where im originaly from let me off by goin to a defensive driving class for 4hrs since i was just 18 years old at tha time.and took it off my record and everything.
its a misdeminor offense. i talked to a lawyer back home when this happend and he said i could get up to 60 days in jail, and like a 1k fine. thats in cali i dunno how things are over here.
oh forgot to add the sheriff said that they could have inpounded my car for 30 days

And yeah, as stupid as I am I hardly ever race on the streets, the guy revved his engine at me in the Amado's parking lot and I figured "2:30am, what the hell..." Go figure.
And yeah, as for the speed, the cop, quote/unquote, said "We estimated your speed at about 70, you were more than likely going faster than that but thats what we got." And ohh yeah, I kept my mouth shut, but the other guy admitted to racing.
And the other car? I actually really am not sure. Thats why I raced it, I had never seen that Honda model before....kinda looked like an Infinity Q35....Definetly a Honda though....

A few months back I got busted for drag racing here. Totally ruined my night and held my air force paperwork up for months. I got a lawyer and he took care of it and I ony had to go to court once out of 3 times. He got it down to a speeding ticket which was a $200 fine plus his fee of $400. Otherwise I would of had too many points and my license taken away, plus a fine of 500. Sorry to hear you got busted. I won my race too.

Ohh hey good idea, what do I do just say "I want an appeal" and take off? I got a rather quick court date, it happened last night and I have to go to court on the 4th

well dude on your court date you actually go to the court building to GET a court date(same place you go if your paying a ticket). Just ask the clerk person at the desk how to and I'm sure she will tell you what to do.

Ok, well, damage has been assesed by the State Of Arizona...
Kinda funny...the guy that I raced was there too, which I found out was in a 2003 V6 Accord (didn't look ANYTHING like an Accord to me) and we both gave different pleas... I went up first and I new that the speed was inacurate on the ticked so I plead "Not Guilty" and when he went up he plead "Guilty" because he wasn't even paying attention to his speed when they pulled us over. Well, turned out that he got his 'sentancing' first and after all said and done he owes the state $691.00 with no other terms. I wen't into another room and talked to a prosecutor and just strait up said right when I sat down, "Ok, the lowest the state will allow for this offense is $250 plus surcharges, that ok?" I was like, "sure" and mine came out to $491.00 after surcharges with no other terms. Got off $200 cheaper with almost no effort. Gah, lot less than I thought was going to happen to me..... needless to say I'm going to let off the gas a lil for a while...
