Anyone from Kingman, AZ.??

Hi all!
I'm thinking of moving to Az. soon. Getting away from all the smog crap and high taxes and such in California!
I want to be close to the River, so Bullhead or Kingman sound good to me!
I heard that some cities do the dyno smog checks, and some don't. Is that true?
Is anyone from around those areas? Any car clubs?

Just wondering,

George

Hey George...I know you from another web site..
Moving from Lomita to Kingman is ok...You can actually afford to live there...They dont have emissions up there so your good to go on that...
But....You are going to MELT in the summer there...Temperatures regularly hit 118 3 months out of the year..but on the other hand you'll be real close to one of my favorite places...LAUGHLIN!!!!

Yes, no emmissions is nice. I was going to have my car registered up there with my dad just for that reason. It's not that hot up there though. You can figure kingman is about 10 degrees cooler than Tucson is. But one thing about kingman is it's small and when it starts snowing, it doesn't stop. Get's freakin miseralbe. Well, at least in my opinion.

Hi guys!
Thanks for the head's up!
I want to be close to the river, as I'm a big time beach surfer! problem here is, over the half the time I go, it's foggy at the beach! Every time I go to the river, it's sunny, and you do see girls in bikinis! The girls don't show up in the fog at the beach!!
Heat is all right with me! Snow isn't! I heard it doesn't snow in Kingman!?! Does it??
Plus, Vegas is real close to Kingman too! So, I wouldn't be too far away from anywhere!!
And I can stiil hang out in Los Angeles too, with the family! So, the junkyards can still be visited!!

Thanks again,

George

Car: currently thirdgenless!!!
Kingman does get a little bit of snow every year. Not much but enough to lay on the ground and not melt right away. But it is quite a bit cooler than Phoenix in the summer.

I live in Kingman. It does snow in the winter. But not much. More cold and windy then snow. Summer gets to about 105 on the hot days. About 1 hour from Vegas and 30 minutes or so from the river. Also about 30 minutes from the mountains if you like a change in scenery. No smog yet. Some clubs around town. Shoot me an email if you want more info.

Congrats on the house, hopefully everything will go smoothly. I lived in San Diego for 13yrs before I moved out here. Az has its ups and downs, but I miss cali soo bad. I used to be at the beach almost everytime I had a spare minute.

Thanks fast86z28!
I too, am a beach person (surfer dude ) Born and raised in the greater Los Angeles area! I have watched things change so much!
But, I'm finally fed up with California! All these laws telling you you can't do much anymore, and all the other crap going on!
I just got some info from SEMA stating that the Politicians are trying to start that getting rid of the 30 year old smog exempt again this new year! Smog rules will be tighter yet again!
At least I can enjoy the river! And finally have room for all my cars! I'll be soon getting more for my collection!

Maybe we'll meet up someday,

George

I thought that the entire liberal ideology was based on personal rights and preservation of private property, but alas mix in the some special interest groups and the "socialistic" politics of alot of the modern left wingers and you have the recipe for politics in California over the past decade. I have no problem understanding why you bailed out, LOL!

Aloha Mr. TurboTA,

I read your thread with interest, since I'm one year away from retiring and moving to Northern Arizona.

Although there's no smog-check problems in Hawaii, I am going insane driving around in circles on an island. I need to be able to drive cross country.

My son is going to school in Prescott, but I'm thinking it would be cheaper farther North.

How do you like Kingman so far?

BTW, nice collection of cars you've got there!

Regards,
Duck

Hi Duck!
Sorry it took so long to respond!
I am still moving stuff back and forth!
I am in SoCal right now, and loading up again right now!
I have spend quite a few nights in Kingman, and I do love it! So quiet compared to the really big city!
I am just waiting for summer to come, so I can start the car shows and drag racing again! And to view the Route 66 things that go on there!
I've got about a month or so, to get everything back together! I've got tons of boxes stacked floor to ceiling, wall to wall!
Getting out of the big cities is lots cheaper, and there are long roads to go to the big cities! HeHe! Just what I like myself! You also get more land to park more cars!! Another bonus!!
Thanks for the kind words about my cars!!

Have a good one,

George

You've stated my frame of mind! Let me know when you get settled in Kingman, maybe we can get together, as I'm bored out of my skull in Hawaii. I'm definately looking for N. AZ as a place to build my 3-car garage and lift. Cheers, Duck

Duck you still in Hawaii?

I also live on Oahu.
Just picked up my first Camaro.
Wondering if you had any suggestions regarding shops that do drivetrain and or exhaust work. I will probably do the other stuff myself.
Do you ever go to HRP?

Yes, unfortunately I am trapped in Hawaii.

I hate it here and dream about moving to Kingman AZ or somewhere else in the Northern Arizona area where I can use my IROC to drive somewhere besides in a little circle.

The best place on Oahu to have your Camaro worked on is Performance Autocare, 808-676-1077. The owner, John Pinero, is honest, has raced Camaros for years, and won't screw you over. Tell him Ed sent you.

Duck,

I hear ya.
It can get boring here if you like to go on long cruises in your ride.
That's why i like going to the track for some excitment.
I'll have to check out John's shop this weekend.
Are you a member of the Hawaiian Island Camaro Club?
I was wondering if those guys were pretty kewl to roll with?
Thanks for the info.

Chris

Guys! (Alex and Brian),
Why do you think I'm leaving Lisa out in Kingman?? I'm going to Texas Loosey's!!!!! :lala:
I know what you mean about Taco Bell! The one out there will go under!!!! But this one is doing good!! And every time we go, we look for you guys (out here)!
So, what do you guys do now??
I should be back after this next weekend!

And yes, Alex, this is the way it has to be! Now hold your head up high! You are no longer my apprentice, young Jedi! Go forth, and battle evil! And yes, get those GTA wheels before me, at the junkyards!!! HeHe!
I just went before we left for this trip! A couple of '82s there! I got a TPI throttlebody, and the dash part for a digital dash! And some GM wheel locks with the key! Oh ya, some wheel center caps!
If I had more money, I would have gotten some rims (no GTA style, I wish!), and the whole TPI setup! But, I think having 3 setups already, is enough! So, when are you going to start collecting those??

Take it easy guys,

George
