Orlando area AutoX
I'm heading out to CFRC tomorrow night (12/8) and to Geneva Sunday (12/9) for autocross. It gets lonely being the only F-body. Would be real nice if some of ya all would come out and play!!
For local peeps there are regular events between CFRC and the SCCA. If anyone gets interested shoot a PM.

Sweet. Let me know. I'm out of action myself the next few weeks due to a back injury, but should be at it again in January. Keep me posted, and let me know if you want an extra set of hands doing the work. Always happy to get greasy and drink beer. :-)

Sounds good. Looks like we have a tentative closing date of jan31. I'm thinking of going out to a few of them at cfrc ans get a better idea . My trans is gonna hold me back. I have a mvb 400. Not sure how I'm gonna work around that.

Just keep me updated. I have a 700R4 and run OK, you should be fine. I put my tranny in low 1, cross the start lights, bump to 2 and leave it. You will NEVER have to shift out of 2nd with our torque unless you have low gears in the rear, then mybe 3 would be better, but once in, just leave it.
Depending on the spine thing, I may not race, but will defenitely show up and support you and console you when you loose to the Mini Coopers. :-)

Ha. Mini. The wife wants one of those. I still have my 700. Been thinking of putting it back in.
Gonna try like hell to get down to bradenton for the NMCA in march. Then I'll go from there.

Hey, any advice for autoX with the third gen? Ive got an 87 z28, 305-5sp. 89 disc rear end, non 1le. My local rules allow me to retro or update to any 3rd gen. Starting prep for the upcoming season in late april.

Re: Orlando area AutoX
My my was someone looking at the times from that day, hmm? LOL. Yes I do believe I was there :-) The "Black WRX" that kept coming in just behind me wass getting frustrated by the end of the night, LOL. We started with a very wet track that went to 'moist' as the night went on. It was a blast what with trying to keep my butt back there behind me, LOL.
I've been out twice, one they listed me s 'black camaro' (11/3) oopsy. The next time the got the 'green' right (17th). I suppose in the dark... The first time out I was running cheapo brake pads and had a rear wheel cylinder out. On the 17th I had ceramic front pads and the rears were fixed, BIG diference. I can't comete with some of those cars, they are wickedly prepped, but the ones that aren't dedicated autocrossers I do pretty good against. Tends to suprise these guys when you come out in a 20+ YO heavy beast and run them down. :-)
Ran at the last '12 SCCA event in Geneva too. That was my last even before my back injury. I can't WAIT to get back out there, it's a blast. Honestly I don't care how well I do in relation to the other cars... it's just pure fun :-)

Re: Orlando area AutoX
I have simply Eibach springs and Tokico Shocks w/ BMR rear arms and panhard, I'm in STX class. Tougher than F Stock, but not bad. My wifes car has to run STU w/ the L31 and HSR she has... that's not good if she ever wants to trophy, not without more mods.
On the other hand, if are like me and don't really care about trophying and just want to have a blast, who cares? LOL. Or, non-sanctioned like at CFRC you can pretty much do whatever you want.
What are your goals? Do you want to be competitive or just get a good perma grin on?

With the IROC sway bars you probably will best me, until I upgrade my sways. I'm going aftermarket with mine and already in a different class though.

Re: Orlando area AutoX
You'll run against stock cars in the SCCA races. You can even go to firmer springs if you want as long as your height is stock, and stay in F Stock, or change to performance shocks. You can do some minor mods and stick in stock class, ceramic pads, etc.

I want to get into Auto-X/ SCCA, but I've been spending all my money on my Mercedes.

Hey, thanx for the response. first time autox, i want to have fun but stay in a stock class and work on my skills. The best trophy would be some appreciation for my third gen.I checked with my local club(SCCV....vermont) and i can upgrade or go retro as long as i stay in my gen. Quickly im gon go with my 89 disc rear, iroc springs, poly everywhere, hawk hp plus', im allowed up to 15 penalty pts before they bump me up a class.

CFRC is pretty much all imports... But everyone is cool there. I've had guys that blow my times away come and say "Wow your car may not be the fastest, but it's a thing of beauty out on the course". You will definitely get appreciation. The tuner guys and drifters out there know it's a different mindset that we have, and they appreciate and respect our cars, at least at the track. Haven't gotten any smack talk that wasn't good natured, LOL.

Re: Orlando area AutoX
CFR club has around 100 cars at the larger events, last event there were 10 guys just in Novice class alone. Enjoy the smaller club :-)
