1984 z28 A/C question
Just recently purchased 84 Z28 L69 H.O. (5 spd) ..... car has 27000 original miles, has been garaged kept, and has not been driven in over 5 years until now. All is good and functional except a/c. Compressor won't kick on, no cool air, and recently I am noticing a slight oily spray on underside of hood where compressor is located. Are seals bad? Freon gone? Any suggestions on repair options/diagnosing? Convert to r134?
While I'm asking, I have inspected most all hoses, belts and tubes and did not notice any cracking/dry rot....however, is it advisable to replace these things? Car was kept in climate controlled garage it whole life. Just want to do what I need to do, but not if it's not necessary.

could be condesor/hose o-ring. gasket at hose assemblyat compressor, bad clutch bearing seal, compressor case seal/gasket that would cause low refrigerant and the low pressure switch would keep compressor from operating without refrigerant/oil and the oil you seeing is a problem. i would say yes on your hose question because the connections are viberating and heated and cooled many times durring their life.

Re: 1984 z28 A/C question
I replaced the compressor with GM. It may have been new. Good reman anyway. I know you want to keep it original, but if you want cold air..... Changed my evap and dryer also. Evap lines are made differently just so you know if you need one. The new AM ones use metal line from condensor to evap off of newer models. There's only one rubber line but it's both of them as you probably know. I think I've seen them available listed as OEM.
Need pics. My 84 HO was an auto but still fun. Still drive part of it!
