84 z-28 Check Engine Light at High Speed
Just recently bought a 1984 Z28 with L69 H.O. 305 (5 spd). Car only has 27000 miles and in pretty mint condition.....hasn't been driven in last 5 years until now. Car starts easily, operates fine, no problems until cruising at 60-70 mph, then check engine lights appears.....once I slow down to "in town" start and stop driving, light goes off. Haven't been able to check codes yet...thinking it may be old fuel mixed with new, or need to replace spark plugs, or O2 sensor. Any thoughts?

No stumble....I will get codes. Could PCV valve cause this? I would think that it would be constant if PCV.

The story sounded all to familiar thoguh no gaurantees that your story will end up matching mine. I too brought my car out of storage after 5 years of sitting. Didn't take much to get her running right and passing road test and all. Long story short, carb needed rebuilding as it was leaking gas within. Light would only come on after prolonged highway driving. Consider it a possibility.

the leaking carb, I too have that problem after storing it... it's the seals that dried up and hardened... ... still fires up with just a tap of the ignition...

Checked codes today...code 44 came back....O2 sensor. I invested 20 bucks and bought a new sensor...will also be replacing spark plugs as well....we'll see if that fixes anything....also found out from previous owner that carb was rebuilt approx. 5-6 years ago, just before storage.....still not going to rule it out yet
?
If it ends up being the carb, any kits available or recommendations on refurbishing the Quadrajet?
