Field expedient garage.
Ok looked 2x's and didn't see a general off topic type area so since I live in TN now and the weather has been for crap thought I'd share this idea my son and I threw together last weekend.
I have a gravel drive that comes up the side of the house. No car port or garage as yet.(only had this house for 4 yrs.)But when it sux out weather wise it drives me nutz not being able to turn wrenchs without gettin stuff wett.
We looked at protable garages and such but can't see spending 200.00 a year for a plastic tarp type structure. So what we did was went to the hardware store and bought about 4 or 5 big eyelett screws.Like the kind ya would put into a tree to tie the dog out or hang a hammok. Also picked up some real cheapD-rings like used for keychains. Then bought a 19.5 ft x 17.5 ft tarp.Since it is a prototype just bought the blu tarp at $17.00 after tax.
We then measured the holes and then screwed the eyelets into the wall of the house from front gutter level to back gutter level. Then used the D-rings to atach the tarp to the house on 1 side and rope to stake the other side to the ground. Poof instant cover for workin in the rain and for less than 30.00.
Now if i run to the shed can grab some old swingset poles to stick up on either end to support the non house side and then pick up a couple more cheap tarps to string up on the side front and back to keep wind down.
Not xactly pretty but highly removeable when work is done for the day and th eyelets are quite low visable and can be painted for that matter to blend in.All in all maybe 50.00 useing bottom end quality blue tarps.
Realy not pretty but keeps the rain ect off ya while ya work and the blower heater and boom box help cover the poping noise from the tarp from gettin on my nerves.Wish we had thought of this yrs ago when we rented.Would have saved me many a day/night of being wet and miserable.
Just an idea thought I'd pass it on.

Hehe.. I did that once when the A/C was out but it was raining so no A/C techs would work in the wet. I set up the blue tarp and it was enough to get one of them to agree to fix the A/C.
Now I have a garage and a carport. I started setting all that up within four days of closing on the house. If you don't do it right away, you never will.

Oh I'm gettin all the info and have already started cuttin down a tree that would be right in the middle of it.Also been working on the drainage in the back yard where the foundation is gonna be.Lotsa red clay out here so almost have a swamp between the 2 houses when it rains for longer than an hour.Permits/exemptions/exceptions to regs/easements/ECT political BS.

gotta do what ya gotta do. i did the 10x20 slab thing for a bit and the best i coulda done at the time was the tree over my slab. the drive went thru the back fence into the back yard and thats where i did all of my work and it served its purpose. i didnt have a good layout for proping up a tarp. there were plenty of times i wished i did.
we now have a new house and i have a comfortable 21x25 garage.
