Re: WTF CL 3rd gens??
I had a guy tell me that a camaro I put on Craigslist was over priced, and I was gonna take $300 for it at the time.

a great example of what kinds of lunatics CL has
The car has been on there for atleast a month it started at 7500 and the title was VERY NICE STOCK ALL ORIGINAL IROC anyone who knows a little something about a Thirdgen can tell you that that is NOT stock and all original lol
after a couple of weeks of being there he dropped the price...
after my brother called him out on his BS he also changed the title and got pretty mad lol
Dont get me wrong its a nice car but its not worth what hes asking in my opinion

Re: WTF CL 3rd gens??
3rd gen > 4th gen. Too many broke *** kids rolling a 98 z28 with k&n filter and flow master thinking its a race car. $7500-$8500 will get you a KILLER 3rd gen with sub 40k miles and in better shape than any $7500 ls car.

Re: WTF CL 3rd gens??
killer looking 3rd gen is just that, looking or maintained. stock/bolt on 5.0/5.7 are a joke.
the ls 4th gen actually runs hard as is with a k&n,lid and even a c/o. not even a cat back. lol
have bought and sold many 4th gens. 6500-7500$ will get you a very nice ls 4th gen.
like i said, a guy looking for the performace id gonna go for the ls car with that amt, its enough to buy in.
im glad i bought mine brand spankin new off the lot.

Re: WTF CL 3rd gens??
ehh, idk bout that.
12.5-12.9 can be had with bolt ls1 m6 cars in the hands of a capable driver.
i broke into the 12s with lid/co/free mods(old school ls1 guy speak )
back in the day with mine.
i think it may take more than a hundo of spray just to keep up. for the 5.0
may keep up with a auto ls1, but i doubt it can outrun it, even on spray. but anything is possible on the street.

Re: WTF CL 3rd gens??
Buddy of mine had a TBI firebird that had a 150 shot, killing LS1 cars. But, we never knew if it was a 305 or if someone threw in a 5.7. Ran pretty hard on motor to be a 305.

Re: WTF CL 3rd gens??
I thought car #2 sounded pretty good!
Here's my story.
I was also looking for a camaro(s) on CL. Ended up buying 2 from SEP-DEC 2012 I searched all the major cities in TX and got desperate enough to dip into the smaller places like Victoria and Lubbock.
In SEP, after looking for weeks. I had found a bunch in Dallas. Something though about each car stopped me from buying. One claimed it had never been in a accident. But I noticed one of the rear strip stickers had been replaced because it didn't match perfectly. When I asked him about it, he replied later..."its not for sale we decided to keep the car" Beautiful car! Just ddin't settle right with me. Then I found a 1LE with like 30K miles (if that) that had never had anyone sit in the rear seat. Car looked brand new. Guy wanted 12k for it.
Then one day, of all places. I found MY car. Of all places.... Lubbock TX. And I'm 35 miles east of Austin. Its a 87 hard top IROC. the engine came out of a 91 Vette, had been rebuilt at a machine shop, bigger injectors and a cam. The car itself had 64k miles and the engine had far less. 3.73 gears, A/C blows cold, 10in sub with amp etc... I paid $6,000 A month and a half later I put some Corvette wheels on it and a guy offered me $11,000 for it. As I'm typing this...my IROC is sitting outside of work with a bunch of more mods on it.

Re: WTF CL 3rd gens??
i found quite a few that were in very good condition.#2 had a solid body and done interior.
i just wasnt feeling it. the motor didnt run hard at all for all the stuff it had in it.
the iroc i was prepared to get in atx sold out the same day. was exactly what i wanted.
but most of the people that i was trying to buy from kept trying to convince me there cars were classics or collectible cars, which imo is not true at all.
i wasnt looking into shopping for a classic car or something to restore.
looking for a solid shell to build into a car that runs real good and looks good.
i dont care about originality at all. im gonna lay the bright silver IROC Z decals over the carbon fiber metallic paint im using. just because i like them.
the car i have is a 91 rs. i know alot of purists prolly wont like that.
but i will be happy with it

Re: WTF CL 3rd gens??
It's not just your area, in the mid-west it is the same. That's why those cars never sell. Like said before, everyone thinks there third gen is a special car and it is worth a fortune.
I drove 2 hrs once to look at a TA. When I got there, I asked the owner where the car was in his ad because the one he showed me wasn't it.
I've dealt with some real idiots on CL....

Sounds like to me interior is the most important thing along with a exterior that has no flaws in it. The rest is already made up in your mind to replace. And car #2 was just that. Also, car #2 has a motor that would be easy to re-sell
why are you against these cars being "Classics" I know they dont have steel bumpers and they may not feel like the typical classics. But let me tell ya...
where I live and work. I have had countless people ask me "What kinda car is this" "An IROC...whats that" makes me feel old. And then on top of that, they refer to both of my cars as "classics" my other is a 78 Z28

#2 didnt do anything for me, i wasnt looking for a fast or built car. i was not willing to pay for the car because i didnt see it fit to my.liking. so i passed. the motor was least of my concern. but i wasnt willing to pay for something for something i dont need. perhaps someone else could have bought the car and enjoyed as is.
#3 i drove out to pay for and arrange pick up. and the guy backed out. i was willing to pay for it.
im a big fan of 3rd gens, im building mine, cuz ive always liked them and owned one in high school. but they are not classics nor collectibles imo.
just my 2¢

Re: WTF CL 3rd gens??
Friend of mine found a really nice 92 Z28. Has the hood blisters and F40 rear wing. Asking 3K. 5.7 liter car. I wish i was not tied up and had the cash. I would offer 2500 in their face with 20$ bills and Ls swap it. Looks clean inside and out.
