Help Needed - Parting out a 1990 Firebird in Houston

A group of us are entering the "24 Hours of Lemons" endurance race Feb 28/Mar 1, 2009 with our recently acquired 90 Firebird. The rules only allow for spending $500 total to purchase and prep a car for the race (no restrictions on safety mods). As we've blown most of our wad on a running car (305/auto), we now need help with selling unneeded parts (glass, interior, A/C, etc) and purchasing smart upgrades (suspension, LSD, etc) in order to be as competitive as possible. If there's something you need or an upgrade you can suggest (or have), please let me know.

Thanks,
Mike

i know a group that entered into the last one with thirdgen, they were running carbed 305 but had fuel delivery issues, they still placed close 2nd and best strategy was to stay out of penalty box.

Yeah, that's a group from Texas A&M. They've posted a lot of useful information on their website - http://www.witchdoctormotorsports.com/ch128.htm.

Thanks,
Mike

a fair center console that isnt falling apart if you got one, or perhaps some door panels that arent warped/torn, power lock actuators, door window motors, center radio piece, AC condenser, compressor, evaporator, basically all of it, , , yeah that'll work

Hello,

Yeah, I'm with Witchdoctor Motorsports (that's me on the stairs in the grey shirt holding the camera...head didn't quite make it in the shot) and if you'd like to chat about the race I'll be happy to share with you my thoughts and our strategy.

I'd say no to headers as in an endurance race the cheapies are likely to crack and put you out. The rule is survival. We went with cast manifolds and a robust exhaust system. Actually, we went with robustness everywhere. Outright speed does NOT matter. Clean driving and no penalties and no unscheduled stops is key. We proved that.

I've got a fuel cell for sale (we had to replace it as it was mounted too low so we used another one...long story) for cheap if you are interested. You have GOT to make long stints (2 hours or more if you can swing it) and be clean to have a shot at winning. Out of 75 cars we only had the 17th fastest lap....yet we easily took second and almost the win with a sick carb that only gave us about 40% throttle the whole second day.

Holler if you have more questions or want the cell. I need it out of my garage!!

We'll be taking pictures of everything we intend to sell the next few days. Email me direct with what you'd like to see.

My daughter's up at Baylor and will be down here next week. She come run whatever parts you want back up to Waco.

Thanks,
Mike

Please check out https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/sout...ird-parts.html for pictures of what we're selling or trading. Let myself or Matt know if you need a close-up of specific parts.

Thanks,
Mike
