TGO down a lot...why doesn't Houston have its own board?

Austin has one, San Antonio has one, Dallas has one. It seems like every other city in the WORLD has one except Houston. Why is that?

Anyone?

www.houston-f-body.org recently started up their board again. There is no one on it...but it might be a good place to set up local gatherings and talk about local/Houston stuff...especially when TGO is down for several days.

Well it seems like tgo is mostly Houston area people. But that does make sense.

Our Austin site is locally owned and run, not connected to TGO. I bet the other cities are the same way.

Start up your own HTO site. Then, you can have control of it, and a backup for when TGO is down,

Re: TGO down a lot...why doesn't Houston have its own board?

lol

Wouldnt that mean people from thirdgen would actually have to participate and go out and do something?

I have met a handful from here since I have been down here. Every weekend at a minimum I go out to at least one cruise spot, sometimes pick up some street racing during the week or late nite on weekends.

Still, doesnt seem like too many here come out that much

That's why I suggested houston-f-body.org. It is already up and running and I know who runs it.

This is a problem...
It seems like there would have to be more active people in a city this big.
What we need is something to get people excited, a REASON to want to take their cars out and play.

But I have no idea what that would be...

My only idea is this:
If there was a place where third-gens went to hang out every Saturday night, with a core of people who showed up regularly, others would know where to go when they had the chance.

Re: TGO down a lot...why doesn't Houston have its own board?

I have an idea....
Could it be that the emission testing in Houston is to blame?

Since 3rd gens are all (except '82s) subject to the rear wheel emission test, which is harder to pass than an obdII test, maybe a lot of the 3rd-gens are migrating out of the Houston area to other places where they can get an inspection without all the hassle.

What do you think?

With any real knowledge of tuning and a good set of cats, anything with less than a "stupid" meaning huge street cam will pass rollers or not :-)

I've had some serious stuff pass on rollers cleaner than stockers :-)

It can be done.

After meeting some of those Houston TA owners club, I think most of them are scared! Strange group they were in all honesty.

If its worth anything I'm planning on heading to Otto's sat nite, prolly wont be out there till 6-7 due to work.

Eric, if you are in town this weekend, give me a holler about the buick stuff if u get a chance.

Well, I'm all for it, but history has shown that there is/has never ben enough interest/activity to support a "Houston only" board. I seriously doubt it will fly!

U know, short of actually starting a seperate board, we can always do a "Houston Happenngs" stickied thread--just for H-town only, right here on thi board up at the top with the other threads--just a suggestion to test the waters!

You are probably right, on both counts...
But what got me thinking about a "New" board was when TGO was down last week.

The other problem is that the current "Houston Happenings" is more like the "Houston Non-Happenings".

Re: TGO down a lot...why doesn't Houston have its own board?

I started the Nw In/Chicago board well after I started turning up a decent amount of people and had a core group of about 10 or so that would show up.

It actually led into ThirdGen Fest with Denny as well.

So we made some headway and even had track rentals till the cost went from 1200 to rent it to 3000$ :-(.

Its hard making anyone show.

We need to find some place around Houston that has a good domestic content as far as cars showing up and decent food is always a help.

I'm willing to do whatever my limited finds allow(eating out more than once a week strains them lol), but I'll be there.

The continuing problem with local boards is people find them even less than they find thirdgen. I dont know how many people I see here or meet that have no clue what this place is. LEt alone a completely seperate board.

A stand slone board would do well for when TGO goes down, but as the newer owners get everything figured out, it should happen less and less however.

Im planning on Ottos t-nite whether I end up going back to work or not(got sent home cause there cutting hours, might go back in at noon)

We shall see, I just hope the weather holds out and I can meet up with a few guys.

I believe Eric is going in the white camaro, Ill be in the burg GTA and I should have another guy from school in a white 86 TA also.

Im doing my part :-)

It is impossible to pass without cats though. I think the real reason is that Houston is pretty much the LSx capital of the country and 4th gens are where it is at around here. There are numerous 4th gen meets but they aren't any fun to go to because of the negative image they have of our cars.

Re: TGO down a lot...why doesn't Houston have its own board?

I just moved to Killeen/Fort Hood, TX...

Does anyone know of any message boards or sites for car shows, cruise-ins, old car shows, SCCA, whatever? In Georgia I had all the local forums, contacts, etc., so every weekend I could take my pic from old car cruise-in, SCCA Solo II, tuner car gathering, whatever... down here in Texas I'm struggling to find the scene, but dying to get back into it.
