I'm getting ready to purchase a '95 Formula with 144,000 miles on it!!!

Is there anything specific that I need to look for or check out before buyinig car? I have never really read up on 4th gens or read much about the LT1.

So any insight will help! THANKS

Sorry for the misunderstanding here, I am purchasing this vehicle to replace the drive train in my '89 Formula with the LT1 and 6 speed.

I just wanted to make sure there was nothing specific that fails with these LT1's???

Is it normal for LT1's to run low oil pressure by the stock guage reading? I have heard that they just run low, but that scares me!

at idle I only show about 10# oil pressure on the stock guage.

So its not a big deal if the needle is right below the first line on the oil pressure guage?

at idle or at driving speed.

sometimes the thirdgen and fourthgen dash gauges are famous for puttin out low readings. My wife's car has always idled in the red, but comes up at speed--not to say it is something U should not check out.

my Lt1 runs the same type of oil psi,cold 60psi,operating temp just above the red-20psi normal driving shows 30-35psi.
since you will have the drivetrain out it would not hurt to instal a new oil pump 30.00 is cheap

The opti spark on those things are a joke. That's the one thing that bothers me about LT1s. You have to remove practically everything in front of the motor to get to it. Radiator, fans, etc.

After a 100k Lt1's have a thing about cam bearings. I have had two cam jobs turn into motor jobs due to the cam driven nature of these motors putting stress on the the cam bearings escpecialy the front one. This is also why when a lt1 gets a lot of miles on it the pressure is crap. I remember a impala ss that had over 200k and the guy wanted lt4 heads and cam. I went to pull the cam and i was like what the hell is sticking? I ended up using a prybar and a hammer to get it out with 3 of the cam bearings attached
