Re: advice from my fellow south central people??

I would recommend upgrading things like the suspension and good brakes. And if you want your car to sound more aggressive maybe a catback exhaust system. If i could do it all over again I would have done appearance mods first like wheels, hood, and paint job because even though i have my car where i want performance wise, i am a little ashamed of the way it looks body wise with all the damage.

Re: advice from my fellow south central people??

uhmm south central, cpt here, neways i would say a nice set of headers, and exhaust, sounds great and it gives it an agressive sound. personally i would delete the smog pump and ac as ive done in my iroc, deletes excess weight and gives ur engine bay a cleaner look esp. if you clean up ur engine and acsent your parts with a fresh new coat of paint. its cheap, and only takes time its a do it yourself thing. the maybe from here follow it up with some msd wires and msd ignition i know this made a diference when i installed it on my car the msb box made my car sound loud, even if its still not lol. good luck

Exactly--what he said.

What do u want to do with the car--daily driver a little faster than it is now?-- weekend driver much faster than now?-- dragstrip?-- look better?-- sound better?--handle better?-- bad *** street machine? WHAT?

How much money do U have to work with?

Do the work yourself or take it to a shop (ARD is about the only thirdgen friendly shop in Hou area!)

And what is the current condition?

You were asking about a new motor, is there something wrong with yours?

How does it seem to run?

Have you done a compression test? What were the results?

The reason I ask is that if there are any known issues with your current motor, you should fix those before you start trying to add power.

If everything is fine now, the next question has already been asked.

What do you want of it?

Re: advice from my fellow south central people??

Given that budget...assuming everything else is OK...I would probably invest in headers, y-pipe and a 3" catback. Then get a NO2 kit, probably about 100 HP.

The exhaust will make is sound mean, get better mileage and more HP.

The NO2 will give you the extra HP you need to beat most 4th gens. It also will not effect your daily-driver status. If everything works right it would probably run a mid 12 second 1/4 mile.

Also, none of these will make it any harder to get your car inspected.

Re: advice from my fellow south central people??

U can't have a BAD *** street machine for 1500.00! Takes a lot more than that.

Is this your daily driver? Your only car or a second car?

Re: advice from my fellow south central people??

If it's your daily drivers I would start with simple things first. Mainly because you can do them yourself and save some money in the process. If it doesn't look like it's had one in a while I'd start with a complete tune up and address any other regular maintenance issues before I started making any modifications. These can be costly themselves.

With that out of the way let's begin spending your money. These are just my opinions and that's all. Take it for what you will. I make no claims that this will in any way help your ride make you the coolest kid in town or help you land hot chicks. Afterall that's why they invented alcohol.

Catco 3" converter $50 or you could have someone make up a piece of pipe to replace it altogether

Catback exhaust $350 (I used price for Hooker... I like the sound)

Headers $150 (Headman longtube price) and a couple cans a alumapaint. I can't recall the price but the stuff is great at preventing rust. Oh and don't forget an O2 sensor bung and maybe some collectors. *insert random dollar amount*

You'll need someone to fab up a Y-pipe. I figure $50-$100?

K&N air filters $32 x 2 = $64

Underdrive pulleys $150 (BBK price)

4th gen aluminum drive shaft... $100 at local boneyard or here off the board. Someone will have one.

High volume water pump $75 at local parts house. TPI doesn't like heat... trust me on this one.

At this point I'm going to say that you should be able to find a 100HP NOS kit for around $300-$400 used.

Some things you can do without and some things you can find at better prices. This should put you near your target budget and provide a fairly quick car.

...except... I would probably go with emission legal headers so you don't have a problem getting it inspected.

Personally I would also skip the under drive pulleys and Al. drive shaft. I'm not a fan of under drive pulleys on low revving (<6000rpm) cars. The Al. drive shaft will make a small difference in a couple of areas...but I would wait until I was sure that I had everything else paid for.

Re: advice from my fellow south central people??

I think the car would pick up better off a small stall , exaust and a small n20 kit. for the price yall are throwing around used i can get a new cold fusion kit for not too much more. Give me a call 8325939140 and lets figure out what would be best for what you want to do with the car.
