HMP--FRI--8/18/06--8PM-- DRAG STRIP TIME!!!
Barry and I are going to go out to HMP 1/8 mile strip and make some passes. If both cars are running right, we are going to have our best 2 out of 3 run, "GRUDGE MATCH", that we have ben talking about for months.
Larry said he wanted to get in on it, but has not responded to another thread talking about it, so I don't know if He is gonna show or not! (Maybe he's scared )
If anybody else wants to come hang out--COME ON!
If anybody else want to make a couple passes--COME ON!
If anybody else wants to match up and run for the gold--COME ON!

I will be there if the weather permits. I cant take even a small chance of rain with these tires. I am trying to line up the chip tuning with Mike and ARD for Sunday, but I ought to have enough without it.
Should be a fun evening, IF Barry's car makes it down the track,

Do U no longer have any "street" tires for the rear for emergencies?

Well I have those GIANT Nittos which work ok for street tires, but I don't have any rims to put them on since I sold mine to you and Barry. I was planning on using these HOosiers DRag Radials as street tires since they are DOT legal, but they have almost not tread, just two lines all the way aroung the circumference. If there is rain in the forecast I may just sit this one out. I want to come though.,

N59 and E. mnt. Hou.rd--5 miles east--if u come to the beltway, U went 1 mile too far.
The easiest for U is to do "google" search for Houston motorsports park for their web site--has all the info U need including directions.

This is more a shakedown night to get some baseline times, get used to making passes with the new tranny, etc, etc, etc. I'm sure we will pair off and make a few passes at each other , but just for fun--probably will not count as our official "grudge match"--probably save that for later in the year, when things cool off a little.
So, having said that--LARRY if U want to pass on tonight, go ahead, cause we are not going all out, and probably not going to put on the slicks!

It was OK--place got prety crowded later in the night about 10pm. Didn' expect that big of a crowd.
Barry actually made it down the track 3 times without breaking anything!
If memory serves he ran an 8.83 (shifted from 1st to 3rd accidently--gotta get a ratchet shifter with that new manual valve body 350)--8.73--8.72--all on street tires. His 60's were 1.9's.
We never paired off, but I ran and 8.83 then 8.76 (street tires) with 1.8 60's--then took out the ir cleners and opened up th exhaust. The extra power had me spinning all the way through first gear--Et's of 9.2 + 9.1 with 60's of 2.3 and 2.1. Then put the it back in street trim and threw everyting back in th car to go home and made one more pass at 8.81--quit spinning the tires so bad--1.9 60 ft.
Several thirdgens there, but did not get an oppurtunity to go talk to them. I whipped up on a white Mustang, a fourth gen that was not anything special and some kind of "tuner" car, and a couple of single passes.
It was HOT, but bearable with the sun down.

Sounds like you guys are pretty darn close, thats awesome! It'll be a good race for sure!
If all goes as planned, I might have the car ready before the year is over.
Planned mods:
Install a bunch of stuff that I've had laying arround forever like the studded diff cover for the rear, ATI super dampner, random tech torque arm, LT-4 stock clutch disc (for now) and new plugs. I also need to fix my fan issue (might have burnt a relay).
What I need to buy/install: new fuel pump (mine is going out, weak fuel pressure), new wires (current ones are arcing), new cap/rotor
And, if I'm lucky, an exody twin disc clutch, aluminum driveshaft, and a mufflex 3 1/2" cat-back
I haven't forgotten about you guys, I just haven't had the time or money to get my toy runnin'.
Maybe next year I'll be able to run ya'll in some grudge matches!
Mike

Yep. We were running very close 60' and total times. And I also discovered a HUGE vacuum leak the next day. Considering all I did was the tranny, adding about 200 lb. to the car. My MPH was down, but on my last pass, broke 80. The car was nosing over @ about 6000. Need to check the timing(will improve 60' times) and carb AFR(Nosing over). I should've opened my cut-out............... It was absolutely too hot to mess with that, change tires, etc. We'll face off at the FALL BRAWL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
