eBay "Advanced Search"

I know from time to time we all have different projects where we are looking for parts (or cars), or very specific parts. Besides looking all the normal places like the swap meet threat, the TGO classifieds, ETC, one thing I have found extremely useful is using the eBay "advanced search".

Even if U kinda put the project on the back shelf, or it's a low priority project, U can enter specific info about the parts U want, location, price range, year, model, ETC. Then, if U make it one of your "favorite searches', U get an email notification everytime something new that fits in that catagory, shows up on eBay, Try it some time, it's pretty cool way to look for a part!

Example: Since i use a Le Bra bra on my 89, and it has seen it's better days, when I deceided to get a new one, there were none listed at the time. Just a couple days, I got the email notification for one. I had kinda forgotten about it. It is kinda like having your own personal shopper!

I always use the regular search and put in "82-92". Of course you get everything that way and even a few other cars that had changes those same years. I bought my superramm intake, SLP headers, edlebrock throttlebody, and Borla catback system off ebay, got good deals on all of them.

Seems like when I see an item that I am interested in, the price gets up to around 85-90% of what a new item would cost. And thats not worth the risk of losing my money to some ebay scam artist.

Although I did buy my first item a few weeks ago and everything turned out fine.

Yes that does happen a lot and your are right, its not worth risking when the price is that close to what you could buy it from summit or jegs, and know you are going to get what you paid for. You just have to wait and find the right one, be a little lucky maybe, when no one is looking for that thing at that time. The SLP headers I bought were new in the original, albiet severely aged, box from SLP and I got them for, well I don't remember exactly but it was at least 60% or 70% of new price

Latin for "Buyer Beware!"

A little common sense goes a long way!

I know what you are saying Zap. But I've read stories about people on the board losing $1,500 or more on LS1/t56 combos. Anyway, you have probably known me long enough to find out that I can be pretty cautious on some issues.

Anybody want to share their 'killer' thirdgen ebay purchases? (There hasn't been much interesting going on in the SC board lately). Oh, there was that offer of free HJ's, but that was a little off of topic.

I havent found anything to "killer", but I got a couple of Ground FX pieces I was missing when I fist bought my car for $25, they worked out great and look good, I also picked up a serpitine bracked for like $25. little odds and ends here and there. I also got a new holley carb for $200 a while back and it has worked out well. Like everyone else said you just have to get lucky and keep your eye out for a good deal.

I have made a few "killer" deals lately.....here is one item # 300003291541.
I thought I was getting a deal on this untill the guy sent me the shipping total item # 170007521966.Total with shipping was $74.00!!!!! I asked him W.T.F. and he started telling me there was a $20 boxing fee.....I contacted ebay and they told me to basicaly pay him / pay the seller fee for it......I think he got mad because I got a good deal on it......He lives 4hrs from here.....may take a visit to the Va. coast in the next few weeks .I would tell you guys about another 'killer" deal I found , but it's still ongoing so I'll spill after I pay up....

eBay can be a good thing, and it can be a bad thing.

I've bought countless parts off ebay, used parts, custom parts, etc.

Only been burned twice that I can remember, one because the seller backed out, and the other was a third tail light, and it was broken in the exact same spot as the one on my car, where the bulb sits.

If your carefull and only deal with people with good feedback, 99% of the time you will be ok.

I've gotten bunches of stuff off eBay--new stuff--used stuff--used stuff from thirdgen parts strippers, that do it for a living. My fiberglass hood, tranny pans, rer aero spoiler, custom seats, door sill, dome light, console cover, tranny/oil coolers, and on and on.

If u shop smart--read about the shipping, read the buyer ratings, basically read the fine print--basically be careful, U can get good stuff at good prices, new and used.

It's kinda like shopping at Harbor freight-- if it seems to good to be true, it probably is! Shop at the normal places like Sumitt/Jegs than see if it's on ebay and compare prices including shipping and guarantees--maybe U save money maybe not--maybe U can just get the part U need!

Again, I will say: A little common sense goes a long way here (and everywhere)!
