2006 SPRING FLING DRAG STRIP RULES OF ENGAGEMENT!!!

If U join us at HMP Saturday night, after the meet/BBQ, U do not HAVE to run the elimination ladder--in fact U do not have to run at all. Come on out and watch all the fun!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

After everybody makes a couple warm-up passes to see what kind of times U are running, at approximently 7:30/8pm, we will sign u up for whatever time class U feel is appropiate.

We will set up an elimination ladder for each time class and run a double elimination ladder. Which means if U win , U advance to the next round in the class U are in.

If U lose, U will advance to the losers ladder. After all the winners side is run until there is only one car left, that has not lost a race, all the people that HAVE lost one race will be paired up on the losers side/ladder. They will all run again until there is only one car that has only lost once.

If we have an odd # of cars in a round (3--5--7--ETC) the fastest car from the previous round get the bye run, but will be required to make a pass. If it is in the first round, where no times are available, we will draw a name from a hat, to see who gets the free pass/bye round.

Then the winner of the winner's ladder and the winner of the loser's ladder, in each time class, will run to determine who is that particular overall class winner, and a plaque will be awarded to that person.

We will have a .100 "breakout" rule to keep the sandbaggers from running in a class slower than they should be running.
EXAMPLE: If U sign up in the 8.50 to 8.99 class, and U run a 8.399 (or faster) it will be scored as a loss and U move to the losers ladder. (A 8.400 is acceptable -- NOT a loss! BUT FROWNED UPON!!!) If U run under the class minimum a second time, It will be scored as your second loss, and U are eliminated.

Everybody is responsible for paying their own admission fees at the track. At the moment, I am trying to negotiate a "group rate", but i need a better idea of how many will be going to the track before I can do this!

A total of 8 drag strip awards/plaques will be given for the following:

Class winners of the following classes:

1---7.99 and faster class = aproximate 1/4 mile time of 12.46
2---8.00 to 8.49 = 12.48 to 13.24
3---8.50 to 8.99 = 13.26 to 14.02
4---9.00 to 9.49 = 14.04 to 14.80
5---9.50 to 9.99 = 14.82 to 15.58
6---10.00 and up = 15.60 and up/slower

Moderators EDIT: WE have eliminated the 7.49 and faster class because, based on last years times that were run, there would only be 1 car in that time bracket

7---Fastest/best reaction time from all who participate in the double elimination ladder
8---An award will be given for the overall fastest time turned in for the eveniing, regardless of whether or not it is in the elimination tournament/ladder--after all this is the "Fastest Houston Thirdgenner"

All cars participating must be street legal/street driven--NO TRAILER QUEENS!

We can have all the test-n-tune runs U want to do--all the grudge matches U want to run--OUTSIDE of the "tournament", but your times are just for bragging rights! No awards will be given out for just turning in a quick time, except for "overall fastest ET".

That is 1/8 mile elapsed times. Go out and make a couple practice runs see what U are turning and If U want to participate in the inter-club eliminations, sign up for what time class U want--U will be paired off with other thirdgen in the time bracket, and U will run for the eventual winner in your time bracket, on a heads-up basis.

Let's say if U run a couple practice runs in the 8.70's/8.80's area, U would sign up for the 8.50 to 8.99 bracket.

NOTE: U do not have to participate in the eliminations tournament we set up. U can go mmake a couple passes just to see what your car will turn, or u can NOT run at all--just watch everybody else go at it.

No, U can trailer it--all the regulars on the board know U drive it on the street. However, if anybody challenges it, i think the proper thing to do is the same thing they do at the Street Nationals--take it for a 20 mile ride/cruise before the competition.

Work for U?

I'm sure Barry will be happy to know, there will be a trailer available if anybodies car breaks! Oh wait, he's got AAA Plus now! That is, if his tranny doesn't break on the way TO the track!

sounds good, i will gladly drive it up and down i - 10 if any issue arrises, just think it would be safer if we had a option instead of being stuck in seally with a broke thirdgen

There is something just not right with those times. Your car should have a lot more in it than that. How is the general tune (plugs, wires, air filter and tire pressures)? You should be able to drop almost a half second on the 60' times.

That would do it. Drop the air pressure. I'll be bringing an air tank.

Drag Race Basics

I'm really hoping for a good turnout for the Spring Fling. Like most of you, my schedule doesn't allow me to attend all the monthly meets and such. I missed out on last summer's bash, and it was just blocks away from my house! I'm posting a link here that is an introduction to the Drag Strip. If you haven't staged before, the whole idea can be a bit intimidating. But I tell you what, it is about the second most fun you can have in your car! I hope that any of you guys that haven't made a full throttle pass before will read it, and come on out and let your car RUN! There are no stupid questions, and there will be plenty of advice available for anyone that wants it (or not!). I'll be there, Zap, Larry, Barry (Tristan and Mike), and many others whom I don't know well yet.

In a nutshell, this is the time and place to get your yah-yah's out. There isn't much out there that is more fun than letting that 3rd gen go blasting down the strip!

Here is the link: ModernMuscleCars.net - Modern Muscle Cars - Drag Racing Basics ( Camaro | Trans Am | Mustang | GTO | Corvette | LS1 | LS2 | LS6 | WS6 | SVT | GT | Cobra | Z-28 | SS | Z06 | Tech )

So now I'm bashing:

Tristan, you got an engine in there yet?

Mike, you got a clutch?

Barry, you got a tranny?

Tristan will kick everyone's butt(will be a good race w/ extremeiroc)
Mikey won't show up.(If he does, he won't race. What's that whining noise?)
I have a tranny, bit it's not in yet. I'm gonna race anyway. I only need 1st & 2nd, which are OK for now.................anyone bringing a trailer?

Shouldn't be blowing black smoke, that's money out the pipes and a big loss in performance. Tune, tune, tune. Air filter OK? No mice in there?

I'll pack in my new (hi-$) header plug sockets, and the timing light to boot. Will also bring the air tank like I mentioned in another post. They DO have air at HMP right?

Anyone got some show-&-tell stuff? I'll bring my old dizzy that was about to spin the rare-earth magnets off in to orbit.

And I like the idea (Zap, Barry?) of posting up what mods you have done to your car. Can't wait to read Rudy's

Shame...I really wanted to spank Mike with a 4 banger too
I wanna race Tristans Car too, he NEEDS to let me win after I practically gave him that rearend I'm so excited, it's been forever since I've been to the track. For all those that don't know, that track has been remodeled recently, the shut down is much longer, there is no annoying gravel, it's all concrete now.
