Re: TPI cleaning?

I'm kinda new to the TPI stuff also. After I got it I took it to work and carefully sandblasted everything except for the fuel rail and throttlebody(I covered all of the holes before sandblastingthe intake and plenum-NOT the runners-I only sandblasted the lower intake and plenum). My runners I took a 3M Roloc disc to then polished with SOS pads from the grocery store. PLEASE keep in mind I am not claiming to be an expert at ANYTHING, but I AM thrilled with how mine came out and it is EXACTLY the look I wanted.

Re: TPI cleaning?

Well I recently had mine disassembled to install new injectors and an AFPR and all the parts were cleaned in my mechanics parts cleaner. Some times took 2 washings. Do not put the TPI throttle body plate in the cleaner as it took some of the original paint off. If I had them at home I might have soaked them in solvent. You mentioned corrosion most of the TPI system is aluminimum which does not rust. I used Mothers mag polish to brighten everything up before it was put back on.

Re: TPI cleaning?

Do a search on polishing the plenum.
There's some really good threads and all you really need is a drill, palm sander and about 8 different grits of sand paper to achieve an almost mirror finish.

Re: TPI cleaning?

I used glass beads in a blast cabinet to clean mine up and then painted it in high temp aluminum (500 degree) which is a perfect color match for the bare aluminum. I then sprayed it with clear(500 degree too) and it looks like a brand new TPI all the time.

Re: TPI cleaning?

When I pulled my engine I cleaned the Plenum and Runners with fine steel wool and it came out great the runners especially.
