Oil Leak, is it my front seal?? Help!

Hey guys, I have not been driving my RS much lately but last week it was warm and I took her out to keep things lubed up. No sign of oil drips anywhere, and oil level was still totally full. Well today I was looking under the car and saw a small oil drip about the size of a quarter. I looked up and I can see oil under the crank pulley and on the front of the oil pan just underneath the crank pulley. What type of leak is this??? Is this my front seal??? IF so, how much do these things cost to fix at a shop???

It could be the front seal or anything above it leaking and dripping down. If it is the seal the good news is the seal and gaskets run about $10. "I "can change the front seal in about 2.5 hrs. A mechanic can check the book time and give a firm quote. Sometimes a groove is worn in the balance shaft from the seal. A repair sleeve can be used for a fix. These run about $10 also. If it is worn too deeply a new balancer is in order. You will not know until it comes apart.

The front seal is an easy fix, remove belt, pulley then damper. (removal/re-installing the damper requires a special tool) While you are at it, examine the damper closely to make sure it the rubber inbetween the damper is still good.

Here is a pic of the leak I was trying to describe. Hopefully some more people can chime in on this thread and give me their opinion.

No discernable oil missing? So it's just weeping. Happens a lot, don't worry about it unless it is going to ruin your driveway or are **** (some of us have been rumored to be). If so then try and fix it. Typically, I'd do the timing cover and the oil pan gasket at the same time... but I allegedly fall into the previously referenced group.
