Re: gear & tire combinations
you are living the dream ! I use cardboard and I have sheet of Masonite I lay on to keep relatively clean and warm. My slab is too screwed up to use a creeper, the wheels get stuck in the cracks LOL
Yesterday it became obvious rigging a crib to use my jack or balancing it on the pad would be a waste of time... so I used my muscles.. LOL it's heavy but I think I can bench press more than this thing.
I can't wait to rehab our garage. new floor and some heat.

Re: gear & tire combinations
Not much to update. I reinstalled my dynalite rear discs and calipers
making sure to use Loctite red and torqueing all the bolts to specs.
25 ft lbs on the hat to disc bolts. 40 on the caliper mounting bolts.
It was painfully obvious the "pro shop" which did this conversion for me in 2005 did not bother using Loctite. My passenger side disc to hat bolts were loose. one actually came loose enough to shear the head off when it contacted the axle retaining plate. I replaced the plate with new.
This could have been a nasty incident at the track, glad I caught it!
I also noticed all the disc to hat bolts are drilled for .035 safety wire.
After speaking with Wilwood and reading the instructions (which they emailed to me) safety wiring is optional, BUT you have to use Loctite red on these fasteners.
I am going to make it a habit to check the brakes at the end of every season. One "click" at 25# is enough to make sure they have not moved. I think when it's time to replace the rear discs the new ones will get wired for added safety..
The moral of the story... never assume a "pro" will not make mistakes

Re: gear & tire combinations
Friday after work I "pruned" the lower bottom front of the wheel houses. I had the wheels on and off about 3-4 times to make sure there we adequate clearance.
LOL, I overcut the passenger side but I patched it with some .025 alum. and rivets.
Some black silicone at the seams and fresh paint, it looks pretty good for a DYI job.
Most important is the tires fit with about 3/4 to 1" of clearance at the tightest areas.
I took my jack stands off the axle housing and brought it down.
The stance looks good to me so I am not cutting any rear coils. The 27.5s up front help balance the rake on the car plus I picked up some ground clearance.
I will post a pic later on. all set to go racing !

Re: gear & tire combinations
Plans were thwarted yesterday since the facility opted to not open due to the "weather"
Thankfully I had the wife call as we pulled out of the driveway just to be safe.
Ironicly it was partly sunny and warm at my house I guess 50 miles away it was a different story... (but I was watching their weather all day and no rain) So we drove around the block I backed it in, and my wife helped me dock the trailer in the garage. LOL at least it is loaded and ready for this weekend. The only thing I need to do is reload some gear, hitch up, ratchet the tie downs and go.
I am very glad we did not waste an hour drive to get turned away at the gates.
It was going to be the little ones first time out. My 5 year old was excited and my 2 year old fell asleep in on the drive around the block.
This is the crappy part about owning a "track day" car, you are at the mercy of the track.
Sometimes a day that works for you just does not work for the track.
But all things in good time, I think I will be pleasantly surprised when I run again, if Wallace Calculator is correct this thing is going to shine with the new rear gearing !

Re: gear & tire combinations
ready to go... back to sleep ! LOL
fired right up on the first crank, not too shabby for a carb LOL!
I have to say the taller tires making loading on the trailer a breeze now, I am sure the race ramps are still a big help
I should have done this tire change years ago LOL!

Re: gear & tire combinations
From the outing last fall with my nephew.
2 things I will want on any future tow vehicle because the Nissan has spoiled me now.
Back up camera: no more wasting time hitching up
Air suspension: levels the trailer load, NICE !

1st pass off the trailer !
Sleeping at the tree and a bit late with the 1-2 shift
still not too shabby considering the 60' time is best ever to date !

3rd Pass... Cachow !! Breaking personal best records today !
10.51 @ 127.60 on 1.483 60' now those SSM bars are working with the taller tires and 4.30 rear gear.

Re: gear & tire combinations
Pass #4 I raised the 2 step to 3400. The 60' dropped back to 1.62
but picked up 1 MPH on the big end and short shifted the 1-2 shift a bit.
Still a 10.63 @ 128.33 is nothing be upset with, that is the best MPH to date
with this new combo.
Last pass for the day, I set the 2 step back to 3200 for the next time out.
we will play with the 2 step and tire pressure.. next time.. to see if we can gat back the 60' with slightly higher launch rpm.
I am amazed that 200 RPM would make that big a difference to the 60'.
The only thing I did changed at the track was my shift light setting 7000 instead of 6800.. The motor liked it. so we will leave there for now..
I did not even get into the carb jetting or timing yet...
The taller tires, lower gear, and slighly higher shift point picked up .25 to .3 compared to our fall outing. So I am very happy with the results!
VIDEOS TO FOLLOW !

Best ET pass to date!
Hung the hoops on the first 3 passes ! About as perfect as a launch can get.
Consistent too ! LOL
The last pass I launched a bit harder off the transbrake but front wheels did not grab any air as evident by the video tape and my 60'. But it picked up some MPH on the big end,and the run was still within .1 of a 10.5 !

Re: gear & tire combinations
Awesome Matt ! Your car looks great and nice run.
Too bad we have a few states between us, our cars would make a nice index match.
I like the high pitched note of your LS motor.
Just curious what you are doing for jetting, timing, & tire pressure.
I have not touched mine at all. I am sure I can get some more MPH out of this with some fine tuning.
PM me if you want so we don't tie up this tread.

Re: gear & tire combinations
where is my Nike Swoosh?! grabbing some air now..
I think the SSM bars are doing their job LOL !!!
I know it's never one mystical part. the whole package is working together as a unit.
But it does show what the right gearing and tire combo will do to help the whole.

Re: gear & tire combinations
Car looks good. Like the hole shot...I have the same set up SSM bars...love them.. never having to mess the the set up..just launch.and hang on..full exhaust. You can't even hear my car in the grandstands. But when it hangs the front a foot in the air everybody's watching...with a WTF.
