drag race time is upon us! and a new shop is almost done!

this spring the car gets a Complete overhaul!
for years i have worked out of a small small one car garage.pushing the car in when putting it away.. and pulling it out when time to work on it. or take it for a sat night spin...

well after getting the 2nd house that has a separate 40x50 work shop. was sweet sweet thing. she gets the 2 car garage under the house.. and i get the work shop for my camaro and tools.. dreams do come true...

and moving from the the first house to this new one was not so bad. as i used the new shop to unload into and then move into the new place.. my old place is now rented out.. and makes a few bucks (DINNER OUT) maby..LOL

but before i want to bring my Camaro to it's new home.. i wanted a nice clean spiffy work shop...!the new place is 12 years old.. and the shop floor is nice.. not one Crack...lol no dings... just a few oil stains...and it has a 12x12 office off to the side...with AC..sweet..the room it now filed with new car upgrade parts....

so 2 years ago i pulled the eng for the 427 sbc upgrade and it snowballed with new seats (recaro)
blower
intercooler
new procomp guages. new wheels tires.. Kmember. A arms Coil overs
and.. well name it...
iv got to bolt the front end on. to get the car to a state that i can move it the 40 miles to the new digs..(rollback)rig...im thinking.

and till them.. the new shop is getting a make over
shot from the back deck of the house.
the new man cave! not as big as i would like.. but its going to be nice inside. ac.gas heat and cable (even a 40" LCD)

another shot with shelves removed so wall could be painted
the guys who did the first install.. did some hack work..will have to fix a few things..
but they did put in lots of outlets

soon this week using a floor buffer scubber to clean the floor
and then letting it set a week before color...all this so my camaro has a nice home. and i have a mancave.

that is the plane. a nice satin white finish on 2 coats of white base.and enof light to cover a landing strip. the painting is done. the floor color is also a light color.. sorta a light sand in polyurethane also in a satin finish. to help with spill clean up.and to help with the light. the floor work is this week.. the wall trim is simple..just 1x3 wood finished with a nice forest green color. the work benches will be done in the same finish...

I'm highly jealous, all these years of working in a carport or apartment parking lots. New show looks great, even if they aren't ever big enough.

That can't be all that bad, especially if that chair has a cup holder.

Eh, I was thinking more along the lines of a office rolly chair. That way one good push and your are out from under the car and back to the tool box.

Re: drag race time is upon us! and a new shop is almost done!

that is a sweeeeet building. i've been trying to get myself financially right for a 30x40. im thinking about doing a 14' tall building so i can do a sort of 2nd story over half of the building. the remaining area would have a lift or 2. 2 lifts would be to store one car over another. im going to have to store a dually, gta, cutlass, and a camaro in there... and i wanted to have some workspace while they are all inside.

Re: drag race time is upon us! and a new shop is almost done!

My eventual goal is a 40x60. 2 lifts, 1 drive on and one 2 post. A loft on one area. Full bathroom and office area. A tire machine, and a brake lather are all on my wishlist. I basically want a full service shop that is just for me.

just got done with the floor prep..now to let it dry for a week. then add the Polyurethane floor color.maby a big red chevy bowtie...who knows..

was at a wedding last year. and the guy had a sweet shop. had a loft for his snow mobiles. and a stand up fork lift to put them in it. full kitchen. shower laundry room. this was about 50 yards from his house. the shop you could drive his log truck in and wash it.and not even track mud to his house...lol

Must be nice to not have any zoning codes to deal with. 40 x 60 "garage" in my backyard... ain't gonna happen.

double checking with lacqure thinner to make sure all oils are out of floor.
used a industrial buffer to scrub the floor.with a good degreaser took all the hard work out of it!

My slab is shot so I get pleasure of busting it out and re-pouring it..
but I can do that 1 bay at a time

Epoxy coating is all about the floor prep. looks like you are taking your time & doing it right !

Re: drag race time is upon us! and a new shop is almost done!

I'm using a polyurethane floor covering so it has a bit of give to it.that and the fact that it was a closeout at $10 a can. So I bought 10 cans to do two to three coats.

as soon as I get the floor color done...I'll bring in some of the new tool boxes. And start to set out all the parts that I picked up over the last three years. I don't think I forgot anything. It should cover just about half of the shop. sort of like Christmas morning there's so much stuff some of that I forgot what I bought....And then I'll bring my car over.

The floor color is a butternut yellow kind of like what you would say on light yellow 63 vet..

Re: drag race time is upon us! and a new shop is almost done!

Things are moving along. Wish is was a bit warmer.so I could lay rhe floor color down all at the same time.. BUT..we did get the wall base trim done. And 2 coats of floor color at the base of the walls.we got it cut. in and around the workbench. So all we to do is the center of the floor...without getting to close to the walls...about a foot out from them..the cool air make the tack up time a bit longer....24hrs+.

when the second coat is on I won't be able to walk on it for about a week in this weather.

Re: drag race time is upon us! and a new shop is almost done!

over the last 2 nights we trimmed out the shops floor with 2 coats of the finnish.and last night i painted the floor trim.so when

I got home i could start installing the trim.I also had them shake 4 gals of the floor color. will start with that and see what it covers.
I have 10 gals total...lol

i put the trim in. and made sure no nuts bolts or other small parts would ever go missing. same thing with the work bench. nice and tight. no gaps to drop anything into...

this should add alot of light.. also adding some track lighting. so i can point it at any place i need it.

i would put the sprinkles down. it will help hide any inconsistencies in the floor, as well as any damage it may get from staines or hits on the floor. i wish it was grey though, lol.

Re: drag race time is upon us! and a new shop is almost done!

sprinkles are good to hide flaws in the concrete but it makes it harder to find small items when they are dropped.

I like that color it will reflect alot of light.

when the floor looks crappy you can just clean, scuff, and repaint it ! Depending on how much use / abuse it sees, you may refinish it every 5 years or so.

I will epoxy mine and do rubber tiles (like you see at the gym) at the car bay I work in.
A 10x20 area to contain messes/spills. The tile is easy to clean, protects any parts you may drop (the floor too) and is warmer to stand on / lay on versus concrete.

This is the same material that free weights get dropped on all week long so that says alot.. it's not cheap, but you don't need to cover the whole garage floor with it.

I'm still jealous of not having a garage. I think I'd go with sprinkles.

Ya know, the gearhead theme can quickly be overdone and end up looking tacky. For instance, coffee table from an engine block and seats from a car is cool, but a shifter lever for a toilet flush handle crosses the line.

almost like fresh concrete. but after looking at the light this stuff adds.

and the $10 a can price..(close out)..i was in for 10 cans of the stuff shops taking 5 gals. so the car garage (2 car) might get a fresh floor..or not thats her space(soon to be wife) and the smell as it drys is over the top...like swimming in laqure thinner..

What kind of paint is it exactly? I've been thinking about doing something with my garage floor. I've been reading about a lot of different kinds of epoxy paint..not sure what to get.

Re: drag race time is upon us! and a new shop is almost done!

this stuff is a polyurethane floor covering. it's alot easier to work with.(iv used the other stuff epoxy)

if ya get a booger ya can use a craper and some mineral spirits and recoat in the first 24 hrs..easy easy..and ya can fill small cracks with it. right off your roller.

ya can patch small chips or big chips with JB Weld. and coat with this stuff the nexed day..and it's got a bit of a give to it.. ya drop a hammer. it's not chipped. dust mop clean up..super sweet! reg $29 a gal. close out was $10 a gal..rodda paints west cost.side of the states.
pays to shop.

going to do my bench tops also.. i have 5 gals left over...lol

How well does the polyurethane paint hold up to sticky tires as compared to the epoxy? I need to do something with my garage floor this year. It's looking bad with paint overspray, oil/fuel stains from the past couple of years projects. I really like the look of your shop, its coming along very well.

was told that it holds up better is some ways. then epoxy. i know it was as easy as just painting. the floor prep took time i used a floor buffer with the stiff britsles and scrubed it with a good shop degreaser/foor cleaner. lots of water to rinse then squegee off almost all of it..then let it sit for 5 days with fans going on it to make sure it was dry.

the dry time is longer then epoxy. 2/3hrs.to touch.. 24hrs to walk on..
its tough stuff. and EASY to use.. just wrap the roller in a plastic bag till you use it the nexed day..even the paint Trey stayed clean...

Well the last thing to do is trim out the window...got the wood cut and in place. Now ill take it down paint it. And put back up... hang all the banners back up...bring in the tool boxes...and its close to getting finished. When I add the support beams to the loft. Its done. Shooting for this week but the floor and walls are done.

You have enough "spare parts" to go into business
or you have a hoarding complex.
Should I call Chuck Palumbo to see you? LOL

Any thoughts on selling some of that booty?
